ABOUT THE BOOK

The story, There’s Still Much to Live For, deals with the dynamics of widowhood in a nuclear family and the influence of extended family values. John Kuto plays the leading role in the story but dies early due to a strange ailment that turns fatal. The supporting role is shared by Belinda, his spouse, now a widow, and the couple’s three children: Thelma, Danny, and Kenneth. Hence, John Kuto becomes a hero in transition, as his name keeps popping up in virtually all the chapters. The plot thickens with members of the extended family–particularly Belinda’s in-laws, led by Pa Olokiki–blaming Belinda for the premature demise of their son, John Kuto. This accusation puts Belinda in a dilemma as she struggles hard to overcome the grief of her husband’s premature death. Belinda also faces the dynamics of being a single parent working 8 to 5 to sustain her family. She nearly gives up for the love of friends who rally around her in her moments of grief and emotional needs. It is essential to mention that, but for the love of such people like Mama Fatima, Nurse Samuel Dogari, Pastor Sullivan Nwachukwu, Nurse Ann Pinta, Dr. Dimeji Banjo, and Barrister Beatrice, Belinda would have been overwhelmed by depression.

CONTENT ANALYSIS OF THE BOOK

There’s Still Much to Live For is broken into eighteen unequal chapters of intense love, intrigues, and suspicions. The author cleverly adopts the prose narrative format, with the story starting on a sad note but ending on a happy note. The story progresses from the beginning to the end on an intriguing template. There is a potpourri of suspense and the resolution of mind-boggling issues. The flashbacks in chapters two, eight, and then drive the story to an unimaginable height. This story exposes the true nature of man in his natural behavioral elements. It explores the essence of man’s interdependence on other people based on trust and mutual respect. The story exposes the relationship between mutual friends, blood relations, and the influence of one on the other. It also teaches about the place of faith in man’s physical and natural activities. Significantly, the story, There’s Still Much to Live For, informs the readers on how much impact marriage has on the upbringing of children and the fact that it takes a couple–husband and wife–to raise well-groomed children. In the words of Nurse Samuel Dogari, “Parenting is a complex job.”
