Athletic Program Offers New Opportunities for Student Participation

Warner Unified School District is excited to announce its new athletic director, Ricardo Lara, who has coached the high school basketball team for the past three years. He additionally has started the football team the after seeing much enthusiasm among the students. With Lara’s direction, Warner Unified’s teams have seen much success in both sports, ending two-year losing streaks.

Lara has not only expanded the opportunities for sports involvement, but also has worked with students to improve the conditions of Warner Unified’s athletic facilities. By painting the locker room and gym walls, students have been able to reap the benefits of their hard work. Members of the sports teams have participated in fundraising to purchase uniforms and warm-up gear. First-hand experience with the results of hard work and lifelong skills provide students with the opportunity to learn outside of school, as well.

With the continued commitment of Warner Unified students, Lara looks forward to another successful season. The newly established boys basketball tournament will see much expansion with an increase in team membership. The athletic program plans to improve the home game experiences by preparing halftime shows, upgrading the game scoreboard, and offering a better snack stand. Lara believes Warner Unified will be able to reinstate the golf, volleyball, and baseball teams in the upcoming year.

The improvements in Warner High School will give more students the ability to pursue sports, bettering their performance and overall readiness for college and future careers.
