Arizona DPS Urges Caution During Summer Travel

With summer heating up in the Phoenix area, drivers are heading north for some cooler weather. DPS is urging caution, and safe driving practices.

Summer is in full swing in the Phoenix area, which means scores of Phoenix residents are taking to the roads in search of cooler temperatures. This can create an especially dangerous situation on Interstates, such as I-17 between Phoenix and Flagstaff.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety says summer is a dangerous time to travel throughout the state. The agency says the most crucial aspect of staying safe on the roads is to obey all traffic laws and always stay alert.

DPS also wants to remind drivers to slow down and move over at the first sight of flashing lights from police or emergency vehicles. Failing to do so is a violation of Arizona’s “Move Over” laws and could lead to a traffic violation.

There have already been several fatal accidents on the I-17 and scores more have been left injured. Renowned Phoenix DUI Attorney and founder of The Arizona DUI Team Brian D. Sloan says drivers should use extra caution when traveling to and from Flagstaff to escape the summer heat.

“If you’re driving back into town, try to pick a time when there will not be so many drivers on the road,” Sloan recommends. “And of course, don’t ever get behind the wheel if you’ve had too much to drink.”

Sloan has a high level of experience representing people who have been charged with DUI. His law firm, the Arizona DUI Team has successfully represented more than 3,000 clients.

Sloan is named as one of the 10 Best Attorneys for the state of Arizona by the American Institute of DUI Attorneys. He also enjoys a “Superb 10/10” rating on Avvo.com.

Vehicle malfunctions are also a common cause of traffic accidents during the summer months in Arizona. Officials from DPS say in the event of a tire blowout, stay calm, do not apply the breaks and slowly take your foot off the accelerator.
