AMPHITHEATER SCHOOL DISTRICT DOTTED WITH NATIONALLY BOARD CERTIFIED TEACHERS TO OFFER BEST EDUCATIONAL PRACTICES

NATIONALLY BOARD CERTIFIED TEACHERS

In the Amphitheater Public School District, there are 33 National Board Certified Teachers. They range from elementary to high school. This includes two principals, Laurie Sheber and Jessica Jarrett. Holaway Elementary has the most National Board Certified Teachers with six, and Walker Elementary comes in second with five teachers.

Stephanie Hayes and Peggy Marner are coaches who help candidates pursue their certification. They both work with a group of 14 teachers from Amphitheater High School. The Arizona K12 Center supports the candidates with training and coaching. They also financially support them by paying for three out of the four components. Amphitheater does offer additional compensation for National Board certified teachers.

The journey to becoming a National Board Certified Teacher starts with registering and attending a pre-candidacy class and a National Board Institute. Both are offered through the Arizona K12 Center. Next, candidates need to create an account on the National Board website and apply for funding assistance from the center. After paying a registration fee and registering for the components necessary, the final step is to register for Coaching Saturdays and/or National Board Workshop.

The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards states, “Board Certification allows teachers to hone their practice, showcase their talent in the classroom and demonstrate their dedication to their students and their profession”. Additionally, they state, “A decade of research shows that students of Board-certified teachers learn more than their peers without Board-certified teachers. Studies have also found that the positive impact of having a Board-certified teacher is even greater for minority and low-income students.”

ABOUT AMPHITHEATER PUBLIC SCHOOLS

Amphitheater schools and facilities are places where students thrive academically; places parents want their children to go; places where highly skilled people work; and places community members respect because of the high student achievement, caring environment, and focus on individual needs. Amphi students excel academically because students are taught by highly qualified staff, including the Air Force Association Arizona STEM Teacher of the Year, 39 nationally board certified teachers, Finalist for Outstanding High School Faculty Award, Arizona Earth Science Teacher of the Year, and more. Amphi students compete at the highest levels both athletically and academically, such as the Academic Decathlon 2018 State Champions (5th consecutive year), AZ Central Unified Athlete of the Year, 55 Southern Arizona Science and Engineering Fair winners, and state winners of Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA). Amphi also offers tremendous programs for all students, meeting them where they currently are and helping them achieve their highest possible success.
