A standout example of an advanced educational program is International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma program at Canyon del Oro High School. IB Diploma Candidates take college-level courses with a global focus. The IB Diploma requires the study of a second language in both the junior and senior years, emphasizing linguistic skills and increased cultural understanding. Students can choose to undertake IB Diploma Programme, which includes the study of six courses. Students also have the option to patriciate in the IB Certificate Pathway. In this option, students take one to three IB courses.

All three of the District’s high schools – Canyon del Oro, Ironwood Ridge and Amphitheater High School offers Advanced Placement courses. These classes provide students an opportunity to take individual college-level classes and earn college credit when they pass an end-of-year exam issued by the College Board.

At Amphitheater High School, students have the opportunity to participate in The Cambridge Academy, a series of classes that are offered to ninth- and tenth-grade students. These accelerated courses have typically been termed ‘Pre-Advanced Placement’ or ‘Honors’ classes.

The Cambridge Academy offers rigorous yet rewarding coursework that is based on the University of Cambridge IGCSE Curriculum. This progressive curriculum is the world’s most popular international curriculum for 14 to 16-year-olds and is globally recognized and valued by American Universities.

Recent research indicates that students who take advantage of advanced education courses tend to score better on college-entry exams such as the PSAT, ACT, and SAT. Amphitheater is proud to offer many of these options for students who wish to pursue additional challenges and stretch themselves academically.
