Forgotten Verdicts is built on a simple inversion of the true-crime formula: the audience is not told a story about a verdict. The audience delivers one. Each case is drawn from the surviving records of historic British courts and performed by a full cast of period voices, with the testimony taken from the court’s own printed record. The case for the prosecution is heard; the defence answers; and every listener locks in a verdict before the real jury’s decision, rendered centuries ago, is finally revealed. The collaboration between an American forensic accounting firm and a British-history production began, fittingly, with the evidence. Citadel was initially approached to consult on the project, bringing a forensic practitioner’s eye to how the series handles, verifies, and presents the historical record. The firm ended up becoming a financial sponsor of the program.
