All Year Round Air Conditioning is Becoming the New Normal

The new COVID-19 normal of home working is sparking a growth in the ductless air conditioner market this summer.

Air conditioning experts at Service Pro Group, who affectionately call themselves Heating and cooling Toronto, have noticed a surge in interest in air conditioning to help keep home workers cool this summer. But the great thing about these units, also known as a mini split air conditioner, is that they can control the temperature in the home all year round.

There are two units, one outside and one inside, and they come in all shapes and sizes to fit the size of the house or apartment the rooms it is serving. They are connected by a refrigerant tube.

A ductless air conditioner can be installed on a wall, which is the most popular configuration, the ceiling, which is good if the unit has to cool a large space, on the floor or it can be concealed and connected to ducts that circulate the cool air. This doesn’t impact the aesthetics of the house, but it is most difficult to maintain.

Ductless air conditioner units are the most cost-effective way of installing air conditioning into a home, but the price can depend on how you it is installed, the size of the installation and the brand being installed. Some of the popular brands include Mitsubishi, LG, Pioneer, Senville and Fried Rich.

Sizes of air conditioning units range from 6,000 BTUs to 18,000 BTUs – this is level of heating and cooling power the unit has. The bigger the unit the bigger the cost of the system.

A spokesman from Heating and Cooling Toronto said that a member of its team would do an initial assessment of the property for its customers to give a realistic and accurate estimate of the size needed for the size of their property.

“Another thing to consider when buying an air conditioner unit is that every single one will come with an energy efficiency rating. The greater the rating the more efficient the system will run, but the more efficient unit will have bigger upfront costs for installation.

“When preparing our quote for a client, we would also consider environmental factors like the outside temperature, humidity levels and then look at the ceiling and wall height. If any of these are key factors impacting someone’s home, then we would recommend a higher BTU unit to ensure they client was getting the very best service from their air conditioning unit.”
