Alfa Chemistry Announced to Provide Carbon Nanotube Nanomaterials Products

On April 15, 2019, Alfa Chemistry launched to provide a wide range of carbon nanotube nanomaterials products to their customers, which include carbon nanotubes, purified single-wall carbon nanotubes, carbon nanotube sponges and oriented carbon nanotube array.

Carbon nanotubes are one-dimensional quantum materials with a special structure, light in weight and perfectly connected with hexagonal structures, and they have many special mechanical, electrical and chemical properties. According to the different orientations of carbon hexagons, carbon nanotubes can be divided into three categories: zigzag, armchair and spiral, in which spiral carbon nanotubes have chirality, while zigzag and armchair carbon nanotubes have no chirality.

Carbon Nanotube Sponges

Carbon nanotube (CNT) sponges are made of interconnected carbon nanotubes in which the nanotubes self-assemble into a three-dimensional interconnected framework. These carbon nanotubes are tiny, sturdy hollow cylinders. CNT sponges are very light and can be elastically and reversibly deformed into any shape. And CNT sponges have an stable structure, high surface area, low density and superhydrophobic surface. These unique properties make CNT sponges very promising for environmental applications such as water purification and oil spill cleanup. Bulk CNT sponges can also be used as 3D porous electrodes for lithium ion batteries due to their high porosity and good mechanical stability. In addition, CNT sponge is also an ideal material for catalysis because it can be used both as a catalyst and as a backbone for loading selected catalysts.

Carbon Nanotubes

Carbon nanotubes are tubular materials made of carbon. They have a long, hollow structure with walls formed of one atom thick carbon sheet (graphene). The interatomic bonding of carbon nanotubes is very strong and the tubes can have extreme aspect ratios. Carbon nanotubes can be used as additives to various structural materials due to their extraordinary thermal conductivity, mechanical properties and electrical properties. Carbon nanotubes have been successfully applied in the pharmaceutical and medical fields due to their high surface area. They have been proven to be an excellent carrier for delivering drugs directly to cells without being metabolized by the body. Carbon nanotubes also have important value in the fields of nanotechnology, electronics and optics.

Oriented Carbon Nanotube Array

Oriented carbon nanotube arrays (OCNTA) are unique microstructures composed of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) oriented along a longitudinal axis perpendicular to the surface of the substrate. These OCNTAs effectively retain and often highlight the unique anisotropic properties of individual carbon nanotubes with precisely controllable morphology. Oriented carbon nanotube array has advantages over individual CNTs and is therefore widely used in a range of devices including flat panel screens, supercapacitors, nanoelectrode arrays, fuel cells, solar cells, transistors and biosensors.

Purified Single-wall Carbon Nanotubes

According to the number of concentrically arranged tubes, carbon nanotubes are classified into single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs). SWCNT is a hollow long cylinder with an extremely large aspect ratio and is made of a sheet of atomic carbon atoms in a honeycomb lattice. SWCNTs are typically purified by competitive oxidation using a mineral acid that produces molecular fragments, and then the mixture was washed with a dilute aqueous base solution at room temperature to remove most of the debris, resulting in a sample with increased purity. The electronic properties of SWCNTs make them very sensitive to their microscopic atomic arrangement and symmetry. They also have extraordinary thermal and mechanical properties. Due to low electron scattering and proper bandgap, SWCNTs are particularly well suited for field effect transistor (FET) architectures. SWCNTs with a diameter of nanometers can also be excellent conductors.

“In addition to carbon nanotube nanomaterials products, we also provide other types of nanomaterials such as graphene, inorganic nanomaterials, metal nanomaterials and some other carbon nanomaterials to meet the growing needs of our customers around the world.” Said Dr. Brenda Randy, the marketing manager of Alfa Chemistry.
