A Photo/Picture Book for Families Offers A Clever Poem to Help Remember 10 Rules To Make It Home Safely From A Police Encounter

Written by A. L. Jaxan, the new book titled “MAKIN’ IT HOME” presents an ingenious memory device for “The Talk”, to help children remember the best behaviours to use

Jaxan Publishing has today announced the release of a book to help parents effectively have “The Talk” with their children. Titled MAKIN’ IT HOME:  10 Rules to Help You Make It Home Safely from a Police Encounter, the new book uses an acrostic poem to present readers with the best behaviours to exhibit whenever they encounter the police. The first letter of each line of the poem spells out the phrase, “MAKIN’ IT HOME,” and the book also comes with a companion video to visually pass the message across.

According to the author, A. L. Jaxan, while no one deserves to die for simply disobeying routine police commands, the sad reality is that more often than not, minor breaches of conduct during police encounters give bad cops a reason to step tragically out of line.

Statistically speaking, Black, Hispanic, Brown, and indigenous people, as well as those struggling with mental illness and poor people of all backgrounds, are disproportionately the targets of police misconduct.

A history of unfair policing has created a collective fear and disdain for law enforcement in these communities, necessitating the need for parents to have “The Talk” with their children, during which they try their best to prepare them for future encounters with the police.

In his new book, Jaxan presents ten behaviours that he posits will help with deescalating tense situations with police officers and ensuring that those who are confronted, can survive the encounter and “make it home” to their families. What makes this approach unique is he has fashioned the ten rules into a rhyme with photos to illustrate each rule.

“I have identified ten behaviours that will greatly reduce police aggression during a routine encounter. These behaviours are the basis for ten easy-to-remember rules designed to facilitate conversations with children, whatever their age.”

Jaxan believes that by diligently following the rules covered in his book, anyone can correctly manage encounters with law enforcement, leaving no acceptable or legally defensible reason for police to use excessive or deadly force.

The book, which is currently available for purchase on Amazon, has continued to receive rave reviews from readers who have attested to the relevance of the proposed rules, while also affirming their efficacy.

“This is a great resource! Very well put together, respectful and easy to follow. The author did a great job of using appropriate illustrations and scenarios. This is information everyone needs to be aware of.” – Kindle Customer.

“This is a great read for the young community. It won’t take too much of your time to read and you fully understand the message at the end. Thank you!” – Clifford J.
