The explosive account of her harrowing experience rocked the media world – and society – to its core, and ultimately led to the successful shutdown of Blackwell’s Asylum.
Throughout her life and career, Nellie Bly spoke up for the underprivileged and helpless, and defied society’s expectations about women. In 10 DAYS IN A MADHOUSE, Bly feigns insanity to expose institutional corruption, abuse and murder. On this her 152nd birthday, her fearless and adventurous spirit is still an inspiration to women everywhere, and we celebrate her belief that women can do and be anything they want. 10 DAYS IN A MADHOUSE stars newcomer Caroline Barry, who was chosen from 8,000 contestants through a star search with the assistance of Google and YouTube. 10 DAYS IN A MADHOUSE had a sold out US premiere at the esteemed Bentonville Film Festival, Geena Davis’ festival celebrating women and diversity. The film then went on to have a successful international premiere at the Cannes Film Festival.
