As part of its ongoing efforts to deepen industry-academia-research collaboration, keep pace with global trends in feed resource development and bioconversion technologies, and explore new opportunities in animal nutrition, NHU invited two leading experts from the Feed Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS) to visit the company on September 1. Yang Peilong, Deputy Director of the Institute, and Xue Min, Chief Expert of the Institute’s Innovation Team for Feed Processing and Quality and Safety, jointly delivered the third session of NHU’s Qiuxin Lecture Series, bringing the company’s R&D teams the latest academic insights into feed resource development and aquaculture nutrition.
Under the title “Feed Resource Development and Biomanufacturing,” Researcher Yang Peilong examined China’s current feed resource supply landscape and the challenges it faces from the perspective of national food security. He shared key technological pathways and industrialization strategies for the bioconversion of feed resources, with a focus on the development of novel microbial protein, feed enzyme products, and the value-added utilization of unconventional resources. He also analyzed the technological roadmap and critical milestones involved in translating laboratory research into industrial applications, highlighting the broad potential of biomanufacturing to unlock new protein resources. His insights provided valuable guidance for NHU’s technology development and strategic planning in related fields.
Researcher Xue Min, speaking on “Rational Selection and Substitution of Fishmeal in Aquafeeds,” focused on the industry-wide challenge of protein-source substitution in aquaculture. She systematically reviewed the current supply-and-demand landscape for fishmeal and identified common misconceptions in fishmeal substitution research. From the dual perspectives of precision nutrition and feed processing characteristics, she presented a systematic approach to the scientific substitution of fishmeal. She also introduced digital solutions, including a database of feed ingredient processing characteristics and an intelligent prediction platform, offering valuable insights into the precise application and broader use of NHU’s aquafeed additives.
Following the presentations, NHU’s R&D professionals engaged in in-depth discussions with the two experts on practical topics such as the adaptation of microbial protein for use in feed, fishmeal substitution in aquafeeds, and precision formulation design. Drawing on their frontline research and industry experience, the experts addressed questions from the R&D teams one by one, sparking lively discussion and a continuous exchange of ideas. The discussions generated practical, actionable solutions to support future technological breakthroughs and the translation of research results into industrial applications.
From green catalysis to feed biomanufacturing, the academic scope of the Qiuxin Lecture Series is expanding in step with NHU’s business development.
