Core Functions of Sulfur Burning Furnace in Bromine Extraction

It continuously generates sulfur dioxide by burning solid sulfur. After dust removal and cooling by water washing, the SO₂ is fed into the absorption tower as the core absorbent for acid-process bromine extraction. It reacts with free bromine and water mist in bromine-laden air to convert elemental bromine into hydrobromic acid solution, completing bromine enrichment. It replaces purchased canned liquid SO₂ and greatly reduces raw material procurement and transportation costs.

2. Waste Heat Recovery & Energy Saving

The high-temperature flue gas waste heat from sulfur combustion is used to heat the liquid chlorine vaporizer via heat exchangers, replacing traditional steam heating for continuous liquid chlorine vaporization. It can reduce standard coal consumption by about 0.3 tons per ton of bromine, realizing cascade heat utilization and significantly cutting overall operating energy costs.

3. Precise Regulation for Working Condition Fluctuation

By frequency-conversion adjustment of sulfur feeding rate and air blast volume, it accurately controls SO₂ output and concentration, flexibly adapts to dynamic fluctuations of brine flow and raw brine bromine concentration, stabilizes the absorption reaction ratio, and ensures the optimal total bromine recovery rate.

4.Purification & Protection for Downstream Equipment

The produced SO₂ gas enters the process system after sedimentation and water washing purification, effectively removing ash and impurities from sulfur combustion. It prevents blockage of absorption tower packings, spray nozzles and distillation tower internals, reduces equipment wear and scaling risks, and extends the continuous operation cycle of the bromine extraction system.
