Toronto contractor cites shorter permit queues and open crew calendars for bookings from September to November

“Permit offices are processing a flood of applications in April, every crew in the city is booked, and suppliers are running behind,” said Iaroslav Streapan, owner of Decksforlife. “A family that signs in the fall skips all of that. Their deck is finished and waiting before the spring rush even starts.”
Decksforlife identified several operating conditions that favor autumn construction. The building departments in the cities of Toronto‚ Vaughan and Mississauga receive fewer applications after the summer peak building season‚ which makes for shorter wait times․ In September and October‚ contractors’ crews are also available to begin working․ Moderate temperatures can alleviate some installation issues with composite or PVC boards‚ which may be easier to cut and fasten than in extreme heat․ Landscape disruption from construction recovers over the winter months.
The company also addressed a recurring homeowner concern about cold-weather building. Composite and PVC decking are unaffected by autumn moisture and falling temperatures. Pressure treated lumber performs normally under the same conditions. Concrete footings can be poured until the ground begins to freeze, which in the GTA typically occurs in late November or December.
“A deck does not need to be installed in spring,” Streapan said. “It needs to be built correctly, and the fall calendar gives crews the room to do that without rushing.”
Fall projects include a site assessment, 3D design modeling provided at no additional cost, permit drawings and municipal applications, construction, and final municipal inspections.
