It relies on the physical effects of acousto-optic coupling to achieve beam on/off, intensity and frequency control. It is the most widely used modulation scheme in industrial laser marking, precision cutting, scientific research optical path, and small and medium power laser radar equipment.

System composition,The complete acousto-optic modulation system consists of five main units: acousto-optic crystal, piezoelectric transducer, RF drive source, heat dissipation base, and optical coupling base. Each module works together to ensure modulation stability.

1. Acousto optic crystal: The core carrier of acousto-optic interaction, which is the key raw material that determines the modulation frequency band, transmission frequency band, and damage threshold. Commonly used crystals are divided into three categories: fused quartz suitable for 1064nm/CO ₂ laser, suitable for high-power industrial scenarios; TeO ₂ has good high-frequency characteristics and is a standard configuration for small and medium power marking machines; Gallium phosphide is compatible with 355nm ultraviolet laser for precision machining.

2. Piezoelectric transducer: pasted on the crystal end face to achieve electroacoustic conversion, high-end products adopt vacuum low-temperature welding process to improve reliability.

3. RF driver source: electronic control core, divided into two categories: TTL digital driver relies on high and low levels to turn on and off RF, which is the mainstream solution for industrial marking; Simulated driving achieves continuous tuning of light intensity by adjusting RF power, which is commonly used in scientific research scenarios. The conventional driving frequency range is 20MHz~400MHz.

4. Heat dissipation base: high-power AOM Modulator with water cooling, aluminum alloy air cooling for small and medium power to avoid high temperature deterioration of diffraction efficiency.

5. Optical Base: Precision fixture that can fine tune the incident angle to ensure that the laser is incident at the Bragg angle.
