SILICON VALLEY, Calif. – July 14th, 2026 – Shira Boehler, a health advocate, lung cancer survivor, and New York Time bestselling author of One Scan Saved My Life, has partnered with Ecosense, a market leader in continuous radon monitors, to initiate their Radon Free Campaign, aimed at educating Americans about radon gas — the leading cause of lung cancer among people who never smoked — and improving access to early lung cancer screening through the newly-launched fund The Cancer Doesn’t Care.
The Cancer Doesn’t Care Fund will receive 10% of every eligible purchase made through the campaign site to support lung cancer screenings for those who may otherwise lack access. Participating customers will enjoy a 5% discount on all Ecosense home radon monitors by using the promo code LUNGS.
The concept for the campaign came to Boehler from her personal experience as a healthy, active woman, a mother of four, who has never been exposed to tobacco all her life, and was diagnosed with Stage 1 lung cancer.
“Lung cancer isn’t just for people with a smoking history,” remarked Boehler. “We need to shift the perception. If you have lungs, then you’re at risk for lung cancer. I never would have imagined it would be my diagnosis, but it was. It’s my hope that by telling my story, even more families become aware of radon gas, realize the value of early detection, and get their homes tested, to eliminate the risk.”
Although cigarette smoking accounts for nearly 90 percent of lung cancers, radon is the leading cause of lung cancer among people who never smoked, accounting for roughly 12,000 new cases each year. Additionally, according to the EPA, radon causes approximately 21,000 lung cancer deaths annually in the United States.
Radon is a naturally occurring, invisible, colorless, odorless radioactive gas that can accumulate inside homes without any signs whatsoever. One out of every fifteen households in the United States is at risk of high radon levels, yet most households do not regularly test for its presence. Furthermore, radon levels can vary with time of day, season, weather conditions, and atmospheric pressure, underscoring the importance of consistent monitoring to provide more accurate readings than a single measurement.
“We hear of far too many cases from families who say they wish they’d known about radon earlier,” said Insoo Park, founder and CEO of Ecosense. “Shira’s story is a great example to show people that smoking isn’t the only cause of lung cancer. By providing public education and continuous radon monitoring to support lung cancer screenings via The Cancer Doesn’t Care Fund, we’re encouraging people to take preventive actions.”
The Radon Free Campaign encourages homeowners to:
-
Learn about radon levels in their community
-
Continuously monitor radon levels inside their homes
-
Improve ventilation when radon levels increase
-
Consider mitigation if elevated levels persist
-
Share information with friends and family to raise awareness
The campaign features Ecosense’s full lineup of digital radon monitors for general consumers, including the EcoQube Flex, EcoQube, EcoBlu, and RadonEye, offering options to suit every home and budget. Each qualifying purchase helps support The Cancer Doesn’t Care Fund’s mission while providing homeowners a more effective and practical way to monitor and improve their indoor air quality.
“It’s important to recognize the significance of environmental risks when raising awareness about lung cancer,” Boehler added. “Testing your home for radon is the easiest thing you can do to help prevent you and your loved ones from contracting this disease.”
