The hinge (also known as a friction stay) is an important hardware component in A Casement Window system. Its role is to support the sash, position the sash, and ensure the sash is stable and does not detach.

What Constitutes a Qualified Hinge?Performance requirements for window hinges:

- Self-Positioning Force of the Hinge – The performance requirement for hinges used in inward and outward opening Casement Windows must be no less than 40N. Otherwise, the positioning ability of the window sash during opening and closing becomes unstable, potentially leading to difficulty in operating the sash.
- Window Operating Force – The operating force for hinges used in inward and outward opening casement windows should not be greater than 40N. Within the sash opening range of 0-300mm, the operating force for hinges used in top-Hung Windows should not exceed 40N.
- Hinge Rigidity – The judgment of hinge rigidity requires assessing whether the hinge’s performance meets requirements when the sash is subjected to different forces in three different positions: (1) While the sash is being opened to its maximum range, after being subjected to a resistance of 300N (approximately equivalent to 30kg force), it must still open normally and maintain good performance in its self-positioning force, operating force, and the gap between the sash and frame. (2) When the sash is being closed and is subjected to a resistance of 300N, the sash must still open and close normally and maintain good performance in its self-positioning force, operating force, and the gap between the sash and frame. (3) For windows equipped with positioning devices, when opened to the positioning point and subjected to a 300N external force, they must still open normally and meet the performance requirements for self-positioning force, operating force, and the gap between the sash and frame.
- Repeated Opening and Closing – Repeatedly opening and closing 25,000 times is a mandatory test for doors and windows. Only after 25,000 cycles of repeated operation, and if the operating force does not exceed 80N, is the product considered qualified.
- Hinge Strength (Sash Carrying Weight) – With the sash opened (or at its maximum open position), the hinge should withstand a pressure of 1000N (equivalent to approximately 102kg force) for five minutes. If all components of the hinge remain intact, the door/window hinge qualifies as a certified product.
- Safety and Rationality Come from Proper Hinge Matching and Appropriate Door/Window Selection
In fact, during use, the quality and user experience of outward-opening casement windows largely depend on the suitability of the hinges and the selection of branded doors and windows. The Rikuker Doors & Windows thermally broken casement window system not only continues the consistent excellent product performance and outstanding appearance design but also places great emphasis on safety precautions for casement windows. The new product series all use imported brand hinges, which feature high strength, enhancing the entire window’s wind resistance capability. They also have good load-bearing capacity, with a maximum load capacity of up to 100kg, and can still operate smoothly after more than 100,000 repeated opening and closing cycles.

Purchasing Advice:
For better corrosion resistance, it is best to choose hinges made of stainless steel material with a grade of 300 series or higher. A qualified hardware component should have no obvious defects such as scratches, pores, pits, or burrs on the product surface; connections should be firm, smooth, and crack-free; the surface coating or plating should be uniform in color and coverage, without any base material exposure.
