The Global Young Innovators Conference (GYIC) China New Economy Summit was recently held at Beijing Jingdu Xinyuan Hotel. Supported by relevant government departments in Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen, and jointly organized by Innovation Observation Network, China Industrial Innovation Center, leading Chinese media outlets and investment institutions, the event brought together around 1,000 industry representatives from around the world.
During the summit, the much-anticipated Gold Leader Award China Economic Innovation List was officially released. The list was jointly published by more than 100 media organizations, including People’s Daily Online, China.com and Phoenix New Media.
Mr. Wu Chaohua, General Manager of Guangzhou Zhouhang Marine Equipment Co., Ltd., was named 2025 Outstanding Young Innovation Leader for his technological breakthroughs, industry contributions and innovative leadership in the marine equipment sector. He is the only entrepreneur from the marine equipment field to receive the honor this year, underscoring the rising innovation capability of China’s marine equipment industry.
Since taking the helm of Zhouhang Marine Equipment, Wu has focused on the mission of “strengthening vessel safety through technological innovation.” Under his leadership, the company has invested heavily in advanced R&D, overcome key technical bottlenecks, and helped drive the transition of marine equipment from passive response systems to intelligent, controllable solutions.
The award not only recognizes Wu’s personal innovation capability and industry influence, but also reflects broader recognition of China’s progress in developing smarter and higher-end marine supporting equipment.
Vessel safety remains a critical priority for the global shipping industry. However, traditional marine equipment has long faced limitations, including post-failure response, difficult data monitoring and weak early-warning capabilities. These challenges have affected both operational safety and efficiency.
With more than a decade of experience in the marine equipment sector, Wu identified early the transformative potential of intelligent technologies. He has led Zhouhang Marine Equipment along an innovation path that combines technology development with practical application scenarios.
The company has achieved multiple national patents, including a pressure-stabilized fire nozzle and a rubber-plastic insulation board with a flame-retardant elastic layer. These innovations address gaps in intelligent vessel safety equipment and high-performance fireproof insulation materials, aligning closely with the industry’s growing focus on advanced technical equipment for smart shipping.
One of the company’s key breakthroughs is its pressure-stabilized fire nozzle. In addition to maintaining stable water pressure, the product is equipped with an intelligent pressure sensing module that monitors pressure data in real time, automatically adjusts the nozzle opening, and uploads data to an integrated ship-shore platform. In simulated shipboard firefighting scenarios, the system was able to keep pressure fluctuation within ±5%, reduce pressure-adjustment response time to less than one second, and improve early fire-risk identification efficiency by around 30% compared with conventional manual monitoring methods.
Compared with traditional firefighting equipment, the solution places greater emphasis on intelligent monitoring, precise control, and data-driven decision-making. By addressing long-standing issues such as unstable water pressure, delayed response, and limited visibility during emergency operations, the technology provides crews and shore-based command teams with more accurate warnings and more intuitive control support, helping improve the safety and efficiency of maritime firefighting operations.
The company has also advanced its portfolio with an industry-leading valve remote control and level gauging system. Designed for ballast, fuel and cargo tanks, the system integrates valve operation, liquid level monitoring and data transmission into a highly intelligent control platform. Supported by high-precision sensors, advanced control units and reliable data connectivity, it enables real-time monitoring, remote operation and early warnings for abnormal conditions. In typical vessel application scenarios, the system can achieve liquid level measurement accuracy of up to ±5 mm, while reducing valve operation response time to within 2 seconds, significantly improving the timeliness and reliability of onboard tank management. With its high level of automation, accuracy and system integration, the technology represents a forward-looking solution for safer, more efficient and smarter vessel management.
Beyond intelligent equipment, Wu has also extended the company’s innovation efforts into core marine materials. He led his team in addressing a long-standing industry challenge: how to balance thermal insulation with flame resistance, while also ensuring elasticity and durability.
The result is a rubber-plastic insulation board with a flame-retardant elastic layer, developed with an advanced composite formula and intelligent adaptive design. The material has set a new technical benchmark for marine fireproof insulation products and further strengthened the supporting system for smart vessels.
The product incorporates intelligent adaptive technology, allowing it to respond to different working conditions in vessel cabins and pipelines. In typical marine pipeline and cabin insulation scenarios, the material can reduce heat loss by around 20%–25%, while its flame-retardant performance can reach B1-level or equivalent high flame-retardant standards, helping reduce fire risks at the source. By improving insulation efficiency and supporting lower onboard energy consumption, the product also contributes to the shipping industry’s green transition.
Since its launch, the product has received strong recognition from maritime exhibitors and shipowners worldwide. Its innovation concept is helping push marine insulation and fireproof materials toward a new stage defined by intelligent adaptation, high safety, efficiency and long-term durability.
Speaking about his innovation philosophy, Wu said: “Innovation in the marine equipment industry is never about overturning an entire system overnight. It is about reducing risks and improving stability in each key component, so that the whole vessel safety system becomes more reliable and durable. This is Zhouhang Marine Equipment’s core development philosophy, and it is also the confidence behind China’s marine supporting industry as it moves onto the global stage.”
As a young entrepreneur, Wu has remained committed to the principle of empowering industry through innovation and safeguarding safety through technology. Under his leadership, Zhouhang Marine Equipment has developed a dual-hub operating model with a Hong Kong headquarters and Guangzhou base. Its business now covers major ports worldwide, and the company has built stable partnerships with leading shipyards and shipowners at home and abroad.
Zhouhang Marine Equipment has also obtained multiple international certifications and type approvals from the China Classification Society. At the same time, the company continues to increase R&D investment in emerging fields such as supporting equipment for LNG-powered vessels and green marine materials.
Wu’s vision is to help China’s marine equipment sector move beyond product exports toward technology exports and standards exports, supporting China’s growing role in the development of international standards for smart shipping.
In its award statement, the GYIC organizing committee said: “With forward-looking innovation vision, solid technical expertise and a strong sense of industry responsibility, Mr. Wu Chaohua has dedicated himself to the intelligent transformation of vessel safety. Through robust innovation, he has broken through industry bottlenecks and used Chinese intelligent manufacturing to protect global shipping safety. He is a model young entrepreneur of the new era who remains committed to real industry and bold innovation.”
Winning the title of Outstanding Young Innovation Leader of the Year marks a new starting point for Wu Chaohua. Looking ahead, he will continue to lead Zhouhang Marine Equipment in advancing intelligent and green marine equipment, overcoming core technological challenges, and building benchmark products. Through youth-driven innovation, he aims to contribute more Chinese expertise and Chinese solutions to global shipping safety and the development of the marine economy.
