Residential electricity prices in Ohio have continued to climb over the past several years, according to data tracked by the U.S. Energy Information Administration. The trend has coincided with renewed consumer interest in shopping for energy suppliers in deregulated markets, where customers can select their electricity and natural gas providers separately from their local utility. Ohio is one of those markets.
Against that backdrop, KTS Energy, an energy marketing firm that connects consumers with retail energy programs, has opened a season-long booth inside Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati. The stand is staffed during home games and offers information on available energy plans, solar power, and energy-efficient products. Visitors can pick up complimentary energy-efficient light bulbs.
Great American Ball Park, home of the Cincinnati Reds, drew close to two million fans last season, according to Major League Baseball attendance reporting. The Reds host 81 regular-season home games, giving the booth consistent exposure to a wide cross-section of the Cincinnati metropolitan area over the course of the spring-to-fall schedule.
The company said the booth is structured as an informational resource rather than a sales setting. According to KTS Energy, attendees are not required to sign up for anything on site, and the giveaways are offered without obligation.
The decision to operate inside a major sports venue reflects a broader shift in how energy marketing firms reach consumers. As digital advertising costs have risen and door-to-door outreach has drawn growing regulatory scrutiny in several states, a number of retail energy companies have moved toward in-person engagement at high-traffic venues, where visitors are more likely to stop and ask questions.
Ohio’s deregulated structure allows residential and commercial customers to shop among certified suppliers for electricity and natural gas, but consumer surveys have repeatedly found that a significant share of eligible households have never compared offers or switched suppliers. KTS Energy said its outreach is aimed in part at customers who are unaware that the option exists.
The Cincinnati booth will operate through the duration of the Reds’ home schedule. KTS Energy said it is evaluating similar setups in other markets based on how the Cincinnati activation performs.
