Announcing the Publication of Mastrodicasa / Master of the House by Paolo Georgio Loberti, a Gripping Saga of Resistance, Betrayal, and the Untapped Power of Two Families
Napoli, Italy. Circa 1935… Set against the suffocating, dark tide of Mussolini’s Fascist Italy, Mastrodicasa / Master of the House, the sprawling new historical novel by Paolo Georgio Loberti, available now, is inviting readers into a world of shadow, secrecy, and unexpected heroism. It is a time when the scent of jasmine and orange blossoms from the courtyard of Palazzo Mastrodicasa are replaced by the harsh effluvium of brutality, and where the simplest, most human acts, love, art, journalism are, themselves, acts of profound rebellion.
While the great, sweeping forces of World War II raged on battlefields across the globe, Loberti’s latest work focuses its lens on the silent war being fought within the hearts, homes, and libraries of an ancient culture. Mastrodicasa / Master of the House is, at once, an intimate character study and a cinematic grand epic, a story that bridges the gap between the opulent, ancient palaces of the aristocracy and the quiet, vibrant workshops of Italian Jewish artisans. It transports readers directly to a nation on the absolute brink of moral collapse, exploring the complex alliances that formed when a common enemy arrived.
The novel is built upon the collision of two families: the aristocratic, Roman-Catholic Mastrodicasas, a name etched into Italian history, and the wealthy, Jewish-Italian Tedescos, whose legacy is defined by craftsmanship and community. As war and fascism close in, their fates are irrevocably intertwined by a shared desperation. The story centers on a remarkable heroine, Chiara Mastrodicasa, the brilliant, young protagonist who finds her quiet, cerebral pursuit of Dante’s Divine Comedy complemented by the violent, inescapable political tide. She discovers truths about her family’s bloodline, her country’s history, and the shocking price of a single person’s freedom, that challenge everything she thought she knew. Her scholarly passion, her analysis of power and morality in Dante’s classic, is no longer an academic exercise; it becomes her primary weapon in a war of intelligence. The novel culminates in a clandestine, almost mythical, operation: a high-stakes plot to abduct history’s most notorious dictators.
The themes are as timely as they are timeless. In our modern age, as we watch the threads of democracy frayed and authority challenged around the world, Loberti’s tale of one family, one scholar, and a nation’s silent scream for liberty resonates with an echo that is both haunting and deeply hopeful.
Mastrodicasa / Master of the House is a book that demands to be read, promising to captivate fans of rich historical fiction, pulse-pounding political thrillers, and emotionally charged multi-generational sagas alike. It is a story that proves the greatest strength is not found in the iron fists of monstrous leaders, but in the enduring spirit of the human heart.

About the Author
Paolo Georgio Loberti proudly resides in the United States geographically challenged but creatively oversized state of Rhode Island. Surrounded by a coastline so picturesque it practically demands to be written about (and occasionally dodged during tourist season), Rhode Island has been his muse, his therapist, and the reason he occasionally gets stuck in surprisingly charming traffic jams. Despite its diminutive stature, the Ocean State has always encouraged Paul to think big – probably because there wasn’t much else to do but dream up grand tales.
With a master’s degree in public health from Boston University, Paul has spent over four decades immersed in the captivating world of healthcare. His long tenure as the state’s AIDS Director has provided him with endless anecdotes, though most are probably not suitable for polite company. Let’s just say he’s seen a few things.
To maintain a semblance of sanity amidst the bureaucratic ballet, Paul has always turned to the soothing balm of writing. It’s cheaper than therapy and far less likely to involve uncomfortable group sharing. His literary inclinations can be traced back to childhood Sundays spent at his Sicilian grandfather Frank’s house. There, amidst the aroma of simmering sauces and the potent fumes of homemade red wine, Grampa Frank would regale the family with tales of “his Sicilia” – a land of passionate people, even more passionate food, and the sobering realities of World War II. These stories, often delivered with a dramatic flourish and a generous refill, clearly left their mark.
Speaking of names, Paolo Georgio was born Paul George, and his pen name isn’t some fancy affectation. It’s the name gracing his father’s birth certificate – a name that bravely faced the Americanization machine and emerged slightly… different. As a junior, Paolo felt a deep connection to this original moniker, reclaiming his heritage with a flourish.
Paolo is happily married to his beautiful and whip-smart wife, Audrey, and is endlessly impressed by his daughter, Aria Mia, who manages to be both a brilliant scholar, a sourdough bread maker, and a talented actress – clearly inheriting all the good genes.
