Vancouver, BC – JusTea, a Canadian tea brand established in British Columbia, is now promoting a new line of organic herbal tea bags that bring hand-picked Kenyan herbs to Canadian tea lovers.
The Women’s Co-op collection features three herbal tea blends grown by a women’s co-operative in Meru, Kenya, the only certified organic herbal teas grown in the country.
This new collection includes Sunset Chamomile, Hibiscus Glow and Lemon Ginger, all thoughtfully packaged in compostable, plastic-free tea bags made from upcycled sugar cane husks.
What Makes Kenyan Herbal Teas Different
While many herbal teas in Canada are sourced from India, China, Taiwan, and Egypt, mainly regions with large-scale automated production, teas by JusTea come from small, family-farmed gardens in Kenya, where every leaf and flower is hand-picked.
Without massive machinery rushing production, and opting for not only hand-picking but also small-batch production, the herbs retain more essential oils and aromatic compounds. This ensures the chamomile tea tastes sweeter, the ginger tea tastes zingier, and the hibiscus tea steeps a more vibrant colour and delicious floral note.
The Starting Women’s Co-Op Tea Lineup
Sunset Chamomile blends delicate organic chamomile blossoms with fresh lemongrass for a smooth cup with notes of honey and soft citrus. The chamomile is noticeably sweeter than conventional chamomile tea, with a fuller floral aroma.
Lemon Ginger combines zingy bold ginger with sweet citrusy lemongrass. The lemongrass balances the spice of ginger with natural sweetness, creating a warming cup that also soothes sore throats.
Hibiscus Glow steeps vibrant pink with a bright tart taste and sweet finish. The organic hibiscus creates a naturally fruity, cranberry-like flavour without any added ingredients. This antioxidant-rich tea is equally good hot or iced.
All three tea blends are organic, gluten-free, vegan-friendly, and caffeine-free, making them ideal for all day (and night) enjoyment.
Why the Women’s Co-op Partnership Matters
JusTea is the first and only North American partner for this Kenyan Women’s Co-op, where over 80% of employees are women. The cooperative provides employment to over 80 families and supports hundreds of farmers in the Meru region, including those with disabilities who are unable to find other local lines of work.
The partnership is more than a decade old, making it one of the longest-running direct trade relationships between a Canadian tea company and Kenyan farmers. This long-term commitment allows the cooperative to invest in organic certification, quality control, and sustainable farming practices.
Because JusTea works directly with the cooperative with no middlemen or brokers, Canadians receive exceptionally fresh tea while farmers receive fair compensation and improved quality of life.
