SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA – ASX-listed investment firm Scalare Partners rolls out The Founders Union and Australian Technologies Competition across multiple cities to strengthen Australia’s startup ecosystem.
Scalare Partners (ASX:SCP) has activated a national expansion of its founder support infrastructure with two events marking the launch of The Founders Union, and the rollout of the 2026 Australian Technologies Competition program.
The events were part of a broader strategy to build structured pathways between founders and capital, as Australia’s startup ecosystem faces tighter funding conditions and rising expectations around investor readiness.
The Sydney activations form part of a national rollout that will extend to Adelaide and Canberra, reflecting increasing demand for scalable startup infrastructure beyond traditional technology hubs.
Event One: Building long-term founder infrastructure through The Founders Union
The Founders Union launched on February 18 at Australia’s first full time hackerhouse in Drummoyne, bringing together founders, investors, and operators in an immersive community event designed to replace transactional networking with structured ecosystem connections.
The Founders Union operates as a national digital platform that connects founders with partners, resources, and growth opportunities based on their stage of development, from early ideation through to exit.
The platform maintains Australia’s largest verified founder database, now exceeding 31,250 founders, connecting them with corporate partners including Westpac, Dell, MYOB, Oracle, and Atlassian.
These partners provide financial services access, technical infrastructure, operational tools, and promotional support designed to strengthen the commercial foundations of emerging startups.
The platform forms part of Scalare’s broader strategy to build long-term founder infrastructure rather than isolated startup programs.
Event Two: Australian Technologies Competition launches 2026 program
On March 10, Scalare hosted the Sydney launch of the 2026 Australian Technologies Competition, an annual national program that runs from March through to September and identifies emerging Australian technology companies with strong commercial potential.
Now in its 16th year, the competition begins each year with a national launch event before progressing through industry categories, judging rounds and finalist presentations.
The Sydney launch event at Tank Stream Labs featured an Investor Ready Pitch Night, where six startups delivered two minute presentations to a panel of judges drawn from across the startup and investment community.
The event reflects growing emphasis on investor readiness and capital efficiency as venture funding conditions tighten globally.
Australian Technologies Competition winners receive more than $10,000 in prizes and gain exposure to investors, corporate partners and ecosystem stakeholders.
The program is designed to bridge a long-standing gap between startup pitching and actual capital deployment.
A combined strength: Responding to a tighter capital environment
The expansion of Australian Technologies Competition and the launch of The Founders Union comes as Australian founders face a more disciplined capital environment that demands stronger operational foundations and clearer pathways to scale.
While Australia has produced strong innovation outcomes relative to venture capital investment levels, many startups struggle to progress beyond early stage funding due to fragmented support structures and limited access to follow-on capital.
Investor readiness, commercial discipline, and capital efficiency are increasingly becoming baseline expectations for founders seeking growth funding.
Australia also faces an accelerating technology talent shortage, with the country projected to need approximately 1.3 million technology professionals by 2030, creating increasing pressure on scaling startups to secure skilled talent.
As labour and capital markets tighten and expectations rise, structured pathways between founders and investors are becoming an essential component of Australia’s innovation economy.
Scalare’s approach focuses on building repeatable infrastructure that prepares founders for these expectations.
Addressing systemic ecosystem gaps
The Founders Union aims to address several structural challenges across Australia’s startup landscape.
Many founders operate outside coordinated national networks, particularly in regional markets where access to investors and ecosystem resources remains limited.
Funding progression also remains uneven, where a large proportion of early stage startups struggle to secure follow on investment despite strong technical innovation.
At the same time, diversity gaps persist. In 2024, Australian startups with at least one female co-founder secured just 15 percent of total capital raised, while all female founding teams attracted only two percent.
The Founders Union incorporates a circular reinvestment model in which profits generated through the platform are reinvested into startup investments through Scalare, creating an ongoing capital loop within the ecosystem.
The Founders Union addresses these challenges through its circular reinvestment model: every dollar of profit earned through the platform is reinvested into the ecosystem through further startup investments made by Scalare, strengthening Australia’s innovation capacity while ensuring founder-led growth remains inclusive and sustainable.
National expansion beyond traditional hubs
Following the Sydney events, Scalare plans to expand both initiatives to additional cities as part of its national infrastructure strategy.
Adelaide and Canberra launch events are currently being finalised, with a tentative date scheduled for March 30th.
The geographic expansion reflects rising demand for founders operating outside Sydney and Melbourne also seeking structured pathways to capital and commercial support.
Scalare’s digital-first platform allows these programs to operate nationally while maintaining local ecosystem engagement through events and partnerships.
Coordinating Australia’s startup ecosystem
Scalare Partners provides diagnostic tools, accelerator programs, advisory services and capital investment tailored to the needs of scalable technology startups.
Through initiatives including the Australian Technologies Competition, Tank Stream Labs, Planet Startup, Inhouse Ventures, and Tech Ready Women, Scalare Partners is positioning itself as a builder of coordinated founder and capital infrastructure. It’s a strategy that reflects a shift away from fragmented ecosystem support towards platforms designed to prepare founders for global growth.
Scalare Partners also maintains the most complete dataset of female founders in Australia, with more than 6,000 women represented, informing inclusion programs and dedicated partner pathways for diverse leadership visibility.
