SOUTHLAKE, Texas – Recademics has launched a new Oregon boater safety course that applies principles from the science of teaching to create a more engaging online learning experience.

For many consumers, required online courses can feel flat, static, and easy to tune out. Recademics set out to build something different for Oregon. Drawing from its roots in education, the company designed a course experience to be more engaging, more interactive, and more dynamic leading to a better prepared boater.

That kind of approach is especially important in Oregon, where boaters encounter a wide variety of waterways and operating environments across the state. “Good teaching is not about dumping information on people and hoping something sticks,” said Jake Waldrop, Co Founder of Recademics. “It is about designing an experience that earns attention, builds momentum, and keeps learners engaged long enough for the material to be retained. That is a big part of how we think about course design at Recademics.”

That philosophy comes from the science of teaching, especially the idea that students learn better when a course first earns their attention. Recademics refers to one of its core design principles as EAL, Emotion, Attention, Learning.

“Oregon boaters are not looking for a course just to stare at a screen and grind through content,” Waldrop said. “Often they’re not looking to take a course at all. So we must deliver a learning experience that feels clear, engaging, and worth their time. We want to earn the right to teach.”

That approach shows up throughout the course experience. Instead of relying on a traditional text-heavy format, the Recademics Oregon course uses videos, interactive elements, activities, and stronger learning arcs to create an engaging path through the material. Lessons are designed to feel intentional and active, helping students stay mentally involved rather than simply pushing through content.

“We think the best teachers make learning interesting, not because entertainment is the goal, but because engagement is what opens the door to learning,” Waldrop said. “If a course can hold attention, explain the why behind the rules, and keep people mentally present, it has a much better chance of preparing them for real-world boating.”

That boater focus also extends to price. Recademics offers an affordable option for Oregon boaters looking to complete their required education, and the company also offers a 50 percent discount for military members and first responders. Recademics says consumers should not have to choose between accessibility and an engaging learning experience.

The Recademics Oregon Boater Safety Course is approved by the Oregon State Marine Board (OSMB) and the National Association of Boating Law Administrators and is available to Oregon residents.
