Richardson, TX – When the FIFA World Cup kicks off this June, millions of fans across the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex will be looking for the perfect place to experience it. At Soccer Spectrum in Richardson, they’ll find something no other venue in North Texas can offer: a watch party inside a living, breathing soccer facility where the sport isn’t just on the screen — it’s all around you.
Founded in 1986 by four Italian immigrant brothers who coached high school soccer in Richardson, Soccer Spectrum has spent nearly four decades as the heartbeat of North Texas soccer culture. This summer, as Dallas hosts nine World Cup matches at AT&T Stadium — including a semifinal — the facility is opening its doors for the most ambitious event programming in its history: reserved watch parties for all 64 World Cup matches, World Cup–themed 7v7 tournaments, international fan events, and a game-day atmosphere built by real soccer people for real soccer fans.
“This isn’t a sports bar that turns on soccer once every four years,” said Steve Barton, co-owner of Soccer Spectrum. “This is a place where people play soccer seven days a week, where you can feel the energy.”
More Than a Watch Party — A Complete Soccer Experience
Soccer Spectrum’s World Cup experience is designed around the idea that the best way to watch the beautiful game is to be immersed in it. Between matches, guests can jump into pickup games or join a World Cup–style 7v7 tournament representing different nations.
The Azzurri Pizzeria + Bar serves the original Mungioli family pizza recipe — the same one the founding brothers brought from Italy — now prepared by Head Chef Eloy Tejeda, who has been in the Soccer Spectrum kitchen for over 17 years. Curated World Cup drink specials and a full bar round out a menu that reflects the global spirit of the tournament.
A Legacy Built for This Moment
Soccer Spectrum’s story begins with Anthony, Gerald, Luigi, and Richard Mungioli — four brothers who immigrated from Italy and coached soccer at J.J. Pearce and Berkner High Schools in Richardson. In 1986, they built a facility where the local community could come together around the sport.
When Barton and co-owner Wes Pingelton acquired the facility in 2021, they undertook a major renovation — a new exterior canopy, expanded heated outdoor patio, new outdoor turf, and a complete bar remodel. Today the facility hosts approximately 4,000 visitors per week, runs leagues for players aged 2 to 60-plus, and maintains waiting lists every night for field time.
“I still remember sitting in the Cotton Bowl in 1994 watching the Netherlands play Brazil when the World Cup first came to the United States,” said Pingelton. “Richardson has deep soccer roots, and Soccer Spectrum embodies that spirit every day. I can’t wait to watch the matches here this summer with old friends and new fans.”
