Tell us about Prince of Typgar, A Trilogy.
Enter a universe where destiny is forged through trial, courage, and choice.
Set on the distant planet of Syzegis, Prince of Typgar is an epic coming-of-age fantasy trilogy that follows the extraordinary transformation of a young royal destined for far more than the comfort of a throne. Across three sweeping novels, Prince Nujran’s journey unfolds through political upheaval, ancient wisdom, and forces that threaten the balance of entire worlds.
In Nujran and the Monks of Meirar, readers meet a sheltered and entitled prince whose life of privilege is shattered when fate forces him from the palace and into the guidance of the enigmatic Maestro Amsibh. As rebellion brews and a dangerous rival plots to overthrow the kingdom, Nujran must confront loss, discipline, and the first hard lessons of leadership.
The adventure intensifies in Nujran and the Corpse in the Quadrangle, where a mysterious death at a prestigious university sparks a web of secrets, illness, and betrayal. Reunited with the Monks of Meirar, Nujran faces captivity, moral uncertainty, and the awakening of abilities he never knew he possessed.
In the thrilling conclusion, Nujran and the Temporal Traversal, the prince studies abroad and discovers powers that could reshape the fate of entire worlds. Joined once more by Amsibh, he embarks on a perilous mission against unseen forces threatening universal balance.
Blending epic adventure, political intrigue, and emotional depth, Prince of Typgar draws inspiration from Indian mythology and modern fantasy to deliver cinematic stories of identity, courage, and transformation.
Begin the journey. The fate of a kingdom, and the universe, awaits.
How did your background and experience influence your writing?
My background shaped Prince of Typgar in ways both deliberate and unexpected. Although I spent most of my professional life in medicine and cardiology, storytelling was always part of who I was. I grew up immersed in Indian epics, stories rich with moral complexity, flawed heroes, and spiritual inquiry, and those early influences never left me. Later, as a father raising two sons, I rediscovered the joy of storytelling through the books we read together, from classic fantasies to modern young adult novels. That shared experience reignited my desire to create stories of my own.
As an Indian-American writer, I was also motivated to bring greater cultural depth and representation into the fantasy genre. I wanted to build an alternate universe populated by diverse characters, mythic traditions, and moral questions that reflect the richness of the world we live in. My love for magical realism, shaped by writers like Gabriel García Márquez, Salman Rushdie, and Mikhail Bulgakov, deeply influenced the tone and texture of the trilogy, blending wonder with realism and imagination with consequence.
Writing fiction came later in life, but that timing felt right. Years spent in medicine taught me discipline, observation, and empathy, all essential tools for storytelling. Much of Prince of Typgar was written while traveling for work, often at 35,000 feet, where the solitude of an airplane cabin became an unexpected creative sanctuary. In many ways, the trilogy reflects my own journey: a blend of science and imagination, structure and wonder, discipline and play, proof that it’s never too late to tell the stories that have been waiting inside you.
What is one message you would like readers to remember?
At its heart, Prince of Typgar is a reminder that even the most wondrous worlds reflect our own.
Nujran’s journey is filled with excitement, passion, and romance, but is also peppered with danger, betrayal and loss. My hope is that readers will find parallels with our imperfect, yet amazing world on Earth, and connect with the tribulations and triumphs experienced by our young hero.
If the trilogy inspires reflection, curiosity about the wider world, or even a brief escape into imagination, then the six years spent bringing this universe to life have been more than worthwhile.
