The theater first opened as the 46th Street Theatre in 1924, but was renamed in 1990 to honor Richard Rodgers, a legendary composer, who created three decades’ worth of shows that had a great part in defining Broadway theater. The Richard Rodgers Theatre has opened numerous hits, including The best Little Whorehouse in Texas, Anything Goes, Damn Yankees, Guys and Dolls, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, Chicago, Nine, and Movin’ Out, among others.
