Dive deep into the structure of your retail store and increase profitability.

New Orleans, LA – February 10, 2020 – Owners of Discovery Retail Group publish “Stores on Fire” to help business owners to increase their profit. Based on their first-hand experience in the lumber and hardware industry, authors Gary Petz and Philip Mitchell challenge retailers to dive deep into the structure of their company. “Stores on Fire” isn’t a theory-based book or a how-to book, instead the book is a work of fiction and is a novel. Petz says, “We wanted to tell the story creatively to get our message. We hope people will buy our book, enjoy the read, and pass it on. We would love to help all retailers; it truly is our passion.”

Mitchell says, “I met Gary, who at the time was working for a competing wholesaler. We soon learned that we shared a passion for helping retailers achieve better results and profit. We first formed a friendship and then, later, launched our business, Discovery Retail Group. That was over a decade ago.”

According to Petz, the primary target audience is for hardware stores, home centers, and lumberyards, but retailers of all types would benefit from reading the book. “We want the book to be an enjoyable learning experience,” Mitchell said.

ABOUT THE BOOK

“Stores on Fire” is about Charley Kern and his wife, who inherit a home center after her parents are tragically killed in a car wreck. Even though he was involved with the store for a short time before the tragedy, he has no idea how to start improving the struggling operation. He takes a leap of faith and introduces himself to a person who soon becomes his friend and mentor. His new friend introduces him to a new concept called The Incremental Improvement System. After Charley thoroughly understands the vast differences that small improvements can produce, he is taken on a journey of reinvention and creates success beyond anything he could have imagined. The engaging story provides an excellent way for people who are looking for a retail store improvement to learn while being entertained.

Also available isStores on Fire: The Profit Increasing Workbook,” which guides the reader to improve your store’s profitability. This book is the detailed guide referred to in the companion book, “Stores on Fire, A Retailer’s Story.” The book introduces a process for building incremental improvement to top-line profit dollars in a retail store. The step-by-step guide outlines a system which leverages the cyclical processes involved in four brick and mortar retail store asset groups; products, employees, customers, and facility to improve the critical keys of the process cycles.
