Voice Biometrics Market:
Executive Summary
Voice biometrics are used to provide secure access by using voice recognition. The recognition software analyzes a person’s voice for pitch, speech, voice and tone to recognize an individual and then provide access or perform some other action (like mark a person present in attendance systems). Voice biometrics has proven to be much more secure than traditional passwords, and cannot be tracked or hacked.
Voice biometrics has two phases, enrolment and verification. The enrollment phase involves the voice recognition system, which records and studies the speaker’s voice. The speaker’s voice is recorded, and different voice patterns or features are extracted to form a model or voice print. In the second phase, that is verification, the speaker’s live speech sample is compared against previously saved voice patterns to find a match.

Voice biometrics has two categories, text-dependent and text-independent. In text-dependent systems, the text used for both enrollment and verification phases must be the same. The text can either be common across different users or unique to each user but has to be the same in the enrolment and verification phase for one user. One example can be in customer recognition during customer support. In this case, voice biometrics is used to recognize the customer, so the customer service company provides all customers with one common phrase.
In text-independent systems, the text used during the enrollment and verification phases doesn’t need to be the same. The user speaks out a series of words/sentences during enrolment for the system to record the voice pattern, and during verification, it is able to do so irrespective of what the user is saying. It functions much like a phone lock/unlock system, for example, or a forensics voice recognition software. Text-independent systems usually also use speech recognition in order to determine what is being said (along with matching the voice pattern for authentication) during verification.
Owing to the higher security and ease of use, voice biometrics is becoming increasingly popular today.
