Exciting new news has arrived from Hollywood. Some sources have claimed that Actor/Producer/Writer Melvin Jackson Jr. is being considered for two Emmy nominations for his six-part web-series called “This Eddie Murphy Role is Mine, Not Yours.” where he portrays Eddie Murphy as well as himself.
The series also pays homage to critically acclaimed comedian/actor Eddie Murphy, and is written by Melvin Jackson Jr and his wife actress Kelly Jenrette. It is directed by Julio Montavlo, and produced by Melvin Jackson Jr. According to the sources, the categories for which Melvin is being considered for two Emmys are for “Outstanding short form Comedy or Drama Series”, and “Outstanding Actor in a Short Form Comedy or Drama Series”.
If nominated, Melvin Jackson Jr. would be making history, as he will be the youngest African American male to be nominated and/or win in the short form comedy or drama series category. Also if Melvin is nominated and/or win in both categories he is being considered in, he will be the first African American male to be nominated and/or win as an actor and producer in the short form categories.
Melvin and Kelly both wish to not only focus on setting new standards but also wish to raise awareness on the various different evolution the industry has undergone, and what further changes can be brought about in it.
Melvin is known best for his role as the acclaimed rapper Kurtis Blow in the BET network NAACP award-winning mini-series “The New Edition Story” as well as his role as Bernard on HBO’s “The Wire” and The Bully on CW’s “Everybody Hates Chris.” Melvin felt the need to make this web-series because for years people had mentioned to him how he resembled Eddie Murphy, and how they both had a similar charm that they managed to instill in their audience.
The web series has been described as not only entertaining but also quite comedic and intriguing. Audiences who watched it felt that it had just the right amount of comedy to not only be an entertaining journey from start to finish but also remained an interesting tale about Melvin and his hope of starring as Eddie Murphy in his biopic.
