Overview: The International Festival of Ibn Battuta – 2nd Edition

The Second Edition of International Festival of Ibn Battuta themed: Travelers, The Ambassadors of Peace, launched on the 9th of November has ended successfully on the 12th of November 2017.

The Moroccan Association of Ibn Battuta announced the success of the festival held for 4 consecutive days in the city of Tangier. Various groups from all around the world participated in this edition through hosting conferences, shows, debates, evenings, concerts, carnivals, films and acrobatics performances. The event was completed with the signing of “L’Appel de Tanger”, a petition ratified by a large number of personalities and social actors from diverse backgrounds as means of affirming their love of peace, tolerance, diversity, mutual respect and acceptance of the other, to declare Tangier the world capital of tolerance, a call to which a wide public as well as visitors from all over the globe have responded.

The organizer extended their deepest gratitude to the members and partners of the association as well as the sponsors. “The Success of the festival is the result of a commitment to excellence; intelligent planning, and focused effort that the whole team from organizers to the sponsors and all the volunteers has exerted, said Mr. Mohamed Dekkak,Honorary President of The Moroccan Association of Ibn  Battuta.

The association also invites all responsible parties in Tangier to promote the city as a touristic, cultural, and financial destination to support such projects that envisage the promotion of the invaluable heritage of the Kingdom, a key pillar on which development is built, in accordance with the recommendations of his Majesty the King Mohammed VI on the 15th anniversary of the glorious Throne Day. It also invites the civil society to participate in volunteer programs given their positive impact on the development of the volunteer’s personality.

The Moroccan Association of Ibn Battouta decided to continue organizing this kind of events in other cities of Morocco and the rest of the world, chiefly in Africa, for the association strongly believes that the character of Ibn Battouta is a legacy of Humanity. “We are encourage to endure with more passion and countless efforts to foster peace through travel where life becomes a journey and the world will become one family”, added by Mr. Mohamed Dekkak.

Festival recommendations:

1 – Launch a caravan to several world capitals, mainly African capitals, in order to promote the cultural heritage of the Kingdom of Morocco and the Moroccan intangible heritage while promoting tourism in Morocco and elsewhere.

2 – Sign conventions and partnerships in order to promote universal values of peace and tolerance.

3 – Take part, as a civil society, in both the parallel and popular diplomacies of the kingdom, which is the duty of all today.

On the other hand, the association is committed to:

1 – Publish the works of the festival in a special edition.

2 – Gather the maximum of manuscripts and works about Ibn Battuta in order to establish the Museum of Ibn Battuta.

3 – Establish a think-tank fully devoted to peace and coexistence.

Mr. Mohamed Dekkak wants to take this opportunity to immensely thank the Secretary-General of the Wilaya of Tangier, Tetouan, Al Hoceima, the Ministers, the Ambassadors and Consuls accredited to the Kingdom of Morocco, the Honorary Consuls, the members of the Diplomatic Corps, the representatives of the Jewish and Christian religious communities internationally, the champions and sportsmen, the great Travelers, International artists and performers, the entrepreneurs, the civil society members, and the police force for their presence during the opening ceremony of the festival.
