Motivational Speaker Derrick Kirk utilizes his traumatic childhood, time spent in an orphanage and experience as a homeless teenager in delivering powerful inspirational speeches to students and corporate executives alike. His messages are deeply personal with a focus on accountability and overcoming unfavorable circumstances, making them relatable across diverse audiences.
Kirk’s transition into motivational speaking came after building and subsequently selling a lucrative events company. His development from a lost child and troubled young man to a successful entrepreneur affords him a unique perspective that he knows can help others.
“After I sold my business I started to think about what I wanted to do next with my life,” said Kirk. “I’ve always enjoyed speaking and I know that my story is one that you don’t hear everyday. So, I want to use my voice to help the next kid who has been dealt a bad hand in life, as well as empower fellow entrepreneurs and business professionals.”

Pain has been a recurring theme throughout Kirk’s journey, one that he has used to fuel his drive to be considered one of the best motivational and inspirational speakers there is. “My very first speaking engagement was at an alternative high school,” Kirk recalls. “I had to wing it because the classroom didn’t have the technical capabilities to display my presentation. That hour flew by and the students gave me a standing ovation at the end. That’s how I know I’m on the right path.”
Kirk’s unlikely success story is still being written as he is currently in the process of filming a documentary that chronicles his time growing up poverty-stricken and parentless in Detroit, Michigan. He has also established the Derrick Kirk Foundation to help financially support underprivileged youth.
