ONLINE TRAVEL BOOKINGS TO EAST AFRICA INCREASE BY 58% IN 2 YEARS

MOJHI.COM IS ONE OF AFRICA’S LARGEST MARKETPLACE FOR ADVENTURE ACTIVITIES WITH PRESENCE IN 7 COUNTRIES

April 26, 2018 – Mojhi has proudly announced that it is well on it’s way to  becoming the largest travel marketplace for everyone planning to visit East African countries (Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda & Rwanda) for experiential and adventure tours. Emerging as the largest marketplace for African adventure activities, the platform offers more than 8000 tours at some of the most inspiring destinations.

Kenya and Tanzania have been the prime destinations for combining a conventional African Safari with beach time at Zanzibar/Mombasa. However In the last 2 years, there has been a sharp increase in interest for adventure tours like Mt. Kilimanjaro, Mt. Meru, Mt. Kenya climbing and for cultural & historical tours like Maasai village visits and Hadzabe tribe interaction. Mojhi.com has its operations well established in these markets and services a large global clientele.

Greeshmanth, CEO of Mojhi adventures said, “We have seen a spike of 58% in the number of enquiries for Kenya and Tanzania tours over the past 2 years. The number of enquiries for tours in these 2 African nations on our platform have risen up to 38,000 in the first quarter of 2018 as compared to 24,000 enquiries in the first quarter of 2016.”

According to Greeshmanth, this dramatic rise in tourism in Kenya & Tanzania is a result of the change in policies by the governments of the two nations, as these governments have introduced more tourism friendly policies. For instance, Kenya since 2016 has been implementing a 10 point strategy that focuses on infrastructure development, marketing, foreign investments and other key areas of tourism development as an attempt to increase and improve its tourism revenue.

The emergence of Online Travel Agents(OTAs) in the last few years has had a compelling impact on the way tours are being booked in Tanzania and Kenya. While traditionally most clients booked their East African tours through offline agents, In the recent past, the development of secure payment gateways for Africa, penetration of global OTA giants and adoption of internet technology by local operators has resulted in more clients booking their tours online. As a result OTAs have seen much higher increase in bookings compared to the overall growth in tourism sector in these countries.

Looking at the ongoing trend and banking on the immense growth potential, Mojhi believes the online booking numbers are going to rise by about 27% YoY till 2020. The ongoing investments by local and foreign players in infrastructure and hospitality sectors in both these countries reflect similar confidence from investors.
