Dr. McFarlane attended The University of Edinburgh in Scotland and graduated in 1969 with his medical degree. He served a surgical internship at Eastern General Hospital in Edinburgh and an orthopedic residency at the Aberdeen Royal Infirmary in Aberdeen, Scotland. Dr. McFarlane came to the United States and underwent a research fellowship in surgery at Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts. He stays within the scope of his practice through his memberships with the British Orthopedic Association, the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, and the Southern Orthopedic Association. He is also a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, Scotland. Dr. McFarlane credits his success to his father who was a general surgeon. Outside his work, he enjoys playing golf and gardening.
