Global exports of chemical wood pulp have been on a consistent decline from 2007 to 2015, with the exception of a brief increase in 2010. Exports amounted to 356 million USD in 2015. There was an annual decrease of -10.1% throughout the analyzed period.

According to IndexBox estimates, Canada remained the leading global exporter of chemical wood pulp. In 2015, Canada’s chemical wood pulp exports totaled 121 million USD, which accounted for a 34% share in terms of global exports. Germany, Malaysia, Portugal, and USA were the other key global suppliers of chemical wood pulp in 2015, with a 53% combined share of global exports.

Malaysia demonstrated an outstanding growth rate of exports from 2007 to 2015, emerging as workd third major exporter. The balance of major exporters contracted their exports of chemical wood pulp over the same period. Canada, however, significantly strengthened its position in the global chemical wood pulp export structure, growing its share from 18% in 2007 to 34% in 2015.

On the other hand, USA (20%, based on value terms), Germany (14%), France (6%), South Africa (6%), and Taipei (5%) were the leading destinations of chemical wood pulp imports in 2015. Every major importer reduced its imports over the period under review. The USA’s share of global imports increased by +7 percentage points, while the share of Germany illustrated negative dynamics (-1 percentage points).
