New York City, New York – The International Association of HealthCare Professionals is pleased to welcome Shelley Kolton, MD, OB/GYN Physician, to their prestigious organization with her upcoming publication in The Leading Physicians of the World. She is a highly-trained and qualified OB/GYN physician with expertise inall facets of her work, including transgender medicine, menopause, aging, transvaginal sonography in gynecology and early obstetrics. Dr. Kolton has been practicing for over thirty-two years and is currently serving patients as a founding member at Downtown Women’s OBGYN Associates in New York City, New York.
Prior to medical school, Dr. Kolton earned her Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Wisconsin in 1972. She then went to Mount Sinai School of Medicine and was awarded her Doctor of Medicine degree in 1976. She then went to Albert Einstein College of Medicine to serve her OB/GYN residency. She studied the safety of VBAC (vaginal birth after Caesarian) in her residency program at a time when repeat Caesarian sections were automatic and standard care. Furthermore, Dr. Kolton was among the first to perform VBACs in private practice in New York City, encouraging women to participate actively in their own prenatal care and delivery.
Dr. Kolton is also board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She also completed a one-year preceptorship in Transvaginal Sonography at Columbia University Hospital in 1990. In order to remain within the scope of her practice, Dr. Kolton maintains her professional memberships and affiliations with a number of societies, such as the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the American Institute of Ultrasound Medicine. She feels that her success is attributable to her progressive thinking and progressive practice. When she is not practicing, Dr. Kolton dedicates to skiing, tennis, and music.
