He is a highly-trained and qualified orthopaedic surgeon with a vast expertise inall facets of his work, including knee surgery, knee arthroscopy, cruciate ligament reconstruction, osteotomies for knee arthritis, partial knee replacement, total knee replacement, hip replacement, revision hip replacement, and peri-prosthetic infections. Dr Mitchell has been practicing for over twenty-six years and is currently serving patients at Ballarat Orthopaedics in Ballarat, Victoria, Australia. She is also Director of Orthopaedic Surgery at Ballarat Health Services and Ballarat Health Services Medical Staff Group Chairman. Dr Mitchell also serves on the AOA Digital Imaging Committee and the AOA Country Surgeons Committee. He is also an accredited orthopaedic surgeon at St John of God Hospital, Ballarat Day Procedure Centre, and Ballarat Health Services.
Dr Mitchell studied for his bachelor degree of medicine, bachelor degree of surgery at the University of Melbourne in 1989. Awarded the Charnley Clinical Research Fellowship in 2000, he went on to work under Mike Wroblewski at Wrightington Hospital in England, which is the spiritual home of hip replacement. Dr Mitchell’s work at Wrightington includes revision hip replacement and single stage revision hip arthroplasty for infection. He also completed the Victoria Training Program in 1998. Dr Mitchell is also a Fellow of the Australian Orthopaedic Association (FAOrthA) and the Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons – FRACS (Orth). He is a member of the Australian Medical Association, the Australian Orthopaedic Association, and the Australian Knee Society. Dr Mitchell attributes his success to his persistence and aggressive patient-centered care to minimize recovery times and maximize results of the surgery performed. He dedicates to skiing in his spare time.
