Education Reformer Explains How Public Schools Can Be Better and Cheaper

Virginia Beach, Va. Bruce Deitrick Price is among the country’s more aggressive champions of smarter, more effective education. Saving K-12, his new book, explains: “If we don’t save the public schools, there won’t be much else to save. The situation is urgent.”

The essential point, Price believes, is that Americans need to know more about the disingenuous theories and methods undermining the schools. These gimmicks are typically created by professors of education who no longer have the interests of students and society at heart. Price recommends, “Let’s do what works, for a change.”

In Saving K-12, Price deconstructs the problems plaguing public education throughout the US. If these problems are correctly understood, he believes, they can be neutralized.

This lively, highly informative book presents 65 articles divided into 10 themes: Culture Wars, Reading Wars; Math Wars; Weird Theories and Methods; Common Core; Historical Background; Guilty As Charged; Where Are Our Leaders; What To Do Now; Etc.

Price appears to be a unique education reformer; his book is a unique resource. Americans who want better schools now have “A Citizen’s Guide,” a blueprint for educational success.

The book’s subtitle says it all: “What happened to our public schools? How do we fix them?” Saving K-12 answers both questions.

Price has written 500 articles about declining standards in American K-12. His mission has met with support and encouragement. He recently returned from Milan where he delivered a speech to Pensare Oltre, an education reform group, about the tendency to incorrectly label and treat children for ADHD and dyslexia. (Link to speech is at bottom.)

All too often, alleged pathology is caused by false pedagogy. The problem, according to many phonics experts, is not dyslexia but “dysteachia.”

Bruce Deitrick Price is the author of six novels, an artist, poet, and education reformer. A graduate of Princeton with Honors in English Literature, he lived in Manhattan for many years where he ran a graphic design business. Along the way he became fascinated by the chicanery in our public schools. He founded Improve-Education.org in 2005 and has worked steadily to educate the country about what really goes on in classrooms.

All who suspect our education system can be better will find that Saving K-12 gives them optimism and new perspectives.

TESTIMONIALS

“There is nothing more important than your child’s education, and no one has a better grasp on what is happening in the schools of the current day than columnist/author Bruce Price.” – Judi McLeod, Editor/Publisher of Canada Free Press

“Bruce Price’s SAVING K-12 is a MUST read! It is precise, concise and powerful. Action is required…for the sake of our children, our grandchildren and the future of the American Republic!” – Robert W. Sweet, Jr., President, National Right to Read Foundation.

“When we have the good fortune to see a true warrior in children’s education, we should mark that date on our calendar.  We need to record the time we became amazed by the boldness, tenacity, and true creativity in that warrior’s work. Bruce D. Price is one such warrior who continues to offer reason and truth to the expanding world of twisted education that our children and their parents must exist in every day.” – Nakonia (Niki) Hayes, author of John Saxon’s Story, a genius of common sense in math education
