Dayton Convention Center to Host Play on Gender Imbalance in IT and STEM Fields and Career Symposium for Youth

Dayton, Ohio Inclusiveness and diversity, especially in IT and technology domains, is a cornerstone of the modern and progressive world. Extending and defending this value for women in STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) is the new stage play and IT symposium, iDream. This timely and hard hitting performance will be held on September 30, 2017 at the Dayton Convention Center Theater.

iDream takes head on the under-representation of women in technological fields, especially information technology (IT). As part of the theater of social engagement, the play aims to bring to public attention research into structural barriers to social inclusion, which can also get internalized by women. With the power of theater, the play packs in a high dose of emotions, expressions and action to shine light on data driven theories of gender imbalance.

The characters of iDream embody the struggles of those who are marginalized in the IT field by virtue of gender, ethnicity, or socio-economic status, but who seek inclusion and equality in the information society.

The symposium and the play will be hosted by Hope Road, a Dayton-based nonprofit, helping youth discover direction and development. The career symposium is for students, parents, teachers, counselors and the community at large, and will include a Q&A session with technology professionals. The event will also see the presence of local colleges and companies. THE SYMPOSIUM, presented in professional panel format offers the opportunity to discuss information about careers in the field of information technology. The goal is to engage youth while introducing participants to prospects in the IT field.
