Governments are investing in CBRN security to protect civilian lives. Development of chemical weapons and their increased usage has become a major concern. These weapons have severe impacts on human life, wildlife and environment moreover their effects can last for years. Such grave risks have prompted development of effective defence systems that can detect, protect, and decontaminate.

Over the years, significant advancement has taken place in the fields of nuclear energy, biotechnology and life science with both positive and negative outcomes. While the positives of the such developments are of immense value, their negatives have equally rattled the mankind. Rising threat from terrorism in regions such as Europe, Asia Pacific (APAC), the Middle East and Africa remains a major concern. Development of nuclear reactors for power generations is also perceived as a threat. The number nuclear reactors have now reach 60 that are spread across 13 countries, which include Poland, Turkey, Russia, China, Japan among others.

Recognized the severe impacts of the CNRN weapons, governments are introducing frameworks that supports demilitarization of such weapons. Also, authorities are investing in development of CBRN resistance technologies. This is expected to provide an impetus to the global CBRN defense market during the forecast period. Market players are actively focusing on product innovation, which is resulting in development of high-quality CBRN Defense products that more capabilities and are more efficient.

Increased exploration in segments such as nuclear energy and chemical energy is also creating application opportunities for CBRN Defense systems. These exploration activities carry exposure risks and hence require CBRN training.

The defense sector is one of the largest buyers of CBRN security. Increased incidence of terrorist attacks and war hysteria is prompting countries to increase their military might and capabilities. This is partly influencing the demand for CBRN security products. For instance, the global sales of CBRN reconnaissance vehicle have picked up steam. The vehicle has capabilities of detecting long-range CBRN threats. Some of the other capabilities include real-time monitoring and georeferencing of chemical compounds, and light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation (LASER).

Governments and international organizations are taking steps towards reduce CBRN threats. Anti-WMD and anti-CBRN initiatives are being taken in various countries across the global. In 1996, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) pronounced the use of nuclear weapons as illegal. During the same year, Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty (CTBT) was signed at the United Nation (UN) by Russia, France, China, the U.K, and the U.S.

The U.S. accounts for the largest number of nuclear warheads in the world. The country also has a large stockpile of chemical weapons. The U.S. federal government is taking steps to systematically dispose these inventories. Currently, 3,000 ton of chemical weapons are stored in facilities at Bluegrass in Kentucky and Pueblo in Colorado. Officials have initiated depletion process of the Pueblo inventory. These inventories are expected to be destroyed completely within few years’ time.
