CHICAGO, IL – Busiest traffic patterns in Chicago. Anyone who’s lived in or around the Windy City knows how much of a nightmare it can be to navigate traffic during rush hour, or any hour of the day for that matter. Chicago is infamous for its traffic, with less than five of the 20 most congested stretches of road in the country located in and around the city limits.
As a service to our customers and the Chicago-land area at large, Illinois Vehicle Auto Insurance has released a study drawing from US Department of Transportation data of the busiest traffic patterns and commute times in the city throughout the week.
Among the variety of interesting data, our study found that morning traffic is at its most congested around 6am, with congestion dissipating for the most part at around after 10am. The afternoons and evenings aren’t much different, with traffic slowing to a crawl promptly around 3pm, a trend likely linked commuter traffic at the end of the work day, and subsiding in most areas of the city around 7pm.
Illinois Vehicle’s study also concluded which of Chicago’s motorways saw the most traffic, with I-90/I-94 dominating the majority of traffic from the Dan Ryan Expressway up to Exit 55A onto Pershing Road (330k) and from Claybourn to West Division Street (305k).
Illinois Vehicle also has recommended routes known to have the least amount of thoroughfare traffic in the city, going one step above the rest to cut time and a significant amount of hassle out of your daily commute.
