A Diabetic app by Doctors hits the Top Charts in Play Store

‘Beat Diabetes’ beats its way to the top charts with over 1000 new users every day.

A group of doctors launched ‘Beat Diabetes’, a health education app that features facts about Diabetes and ways to beat the disease, in April 2016 and the app has already seen 10600 downloads within 7 days of its launch and has been ranked as the top free Medical app in Play Store.

The idea for the app took birth when a group of doctors from NITTE University wanted to do something unique for ‘World Health Day 2016’, something that could symbolize their field of speciality – Community Medicine. “We wanted to spread awareness to a wider audience” says Dr Prince Alex Abraham, one of the doctors. The theme of World Health Day was ‘Beat the Diabetes’ and so, the app on Diabetes. The group immediately got to work, and the result was an app which has not only become famous overnight, but is also serving its purpose.

Dr Sharon Baisil, the mastermind behind the app, already has three other apps under his name. He has also won the prestigious ‘Massachusetts Institute of Technology App Inventor – App of the Month’ for his app ‘Let me hear again’ in August, 2014.  “People are all aware of a disease called Diabetes but most still do not know much about it. They have wrong ideas about how it is caused and about what precautions they have to take. Our app just gives out information in a simple way so that they can understand and utilize it,” he says.

The app has been widely recognized and their plan of reaching out to a wider audience has worked, what with the app even being appreciated by the International Diabetic Federation. The response from the users has been overwhelming. They find the app very informative and greatly appreciate the tips it provides to live a healthy diabetic life.

“Good one. Gives complete clarity on do’s and don’ts and also the food diets. I give it 3 thumbs up” says one user in a review. There have been 176 review in the 6 days post its release with an average rating of 4.6/5.
