This report has been designed to provide a detailed analysis of the global manganese market. It covers the most recent data sets of quantitative medium-term projections, as well as developments in production, trade, consumption and prices.<\/p>\n

The global trade in manganese amounted to 843 million USD in 2015, fluctuating wildly over the period under review. A 58% drop in 2009 was followed by recovery over the next two years, until exports decreased by 25%. They grew for two years after and ended 2015 with a slight decline. Overall, there was an annual decrease of -4.0% from 2007 to 2015.<\/p>\n

According to IndexBox estimates, China continued to supply over 70% of the world’s manganese. In 2015, China’s manganese exports totaled 592 million USD. South Africa, the Netherlands, Germany, and Belgium were the other key global suppliers of manganese in 2015, with a 21% combined share of global exports.<\/p>\n

The Netherlands (+0.6% per year) and Belgium (+1.1% per year) were the only key exporters that displayed a positive rate of growth from 2007 to 2015. The balance of the suppliers contracted their exports over the period under review. The countries’ positions in terms of global exports remained relatively stable, with the exception of China, whose share of exports lost -4 percentage points from 2007 to 2015.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, the Republic of Korea (17%, based on value terms), Japan (14%), Russia (11%), USA (8%), and India (7%) were the leading destinations of manganese imports in 2015. Imports to Russia grew at a rapid pace of +24.3% per year from 2007 to 2015. By contrast, Japan significantly contracted its imports of manganese over the same period. Russia’s share of global imports increased from 1% in 2007 to 11% in 2015, while the share of Japan illustrated negative dynamics (-8 percentage points).<\/p>\n
