The global beer trade amounted to 12,850 million USD in 2015, fluctuating slightly over the period under review. A slight drop in 2009 was followed by recovery over the next five years, until exports decreased again. Overall, there was an annual increase of 2.8% from 2007 to 2015. <\/p>\n

Mexico emerged as the global leader in beer exports in 2010, overtaking an industry previously dominated by the Netherlands. In 2015, Mexico’s beer exports totaled 2,542 million USD, which accounted for a 20% share in terms of global exports. The Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, and the UK were the other key global suppliers of beer in 2015, with a 41% combined share of global exports. <\/p>\n

Belgium (+4.6% per year) and Mexico (+4.5% per year) were the fastest growing exporters from 2007 to 2015. Mexico strengthened its position in the global export structure, growing its share from 17% in 2007 to 20% in 2015, which made it the dominant exporter. <\/p>\n

On the other hand, USA (34.8%, based on value terms), France (4.8%), the UK (4.5%), Italy (4.4%), and China (4.2%) were the leading destinations of beer imports in 2015. Imports to China grew at a rapid pace of +46.3% per year from 2007 to 2015. By contrast, the UK slightly contracted its imports of beer over the same period. China’s share of global imports increased significantly by +4 percentage points, while the share of the UK illustrated negative dynamics (-3 percentage points).<\/p>\n
