The global trade in bicycles amounted to 9,553 million USD in 2015, fluctuating mildly over the period under review. A significant drop in 2009 was followed by robust growth over next three years, until it levelled off through to 2015. Overall, there was an annual increase of 6.1% from 2007 to 2015. <\/p>\n

China continued to dominate in the global supplies of bicycles. In 2015, China’s exports of bicycles totaled 3,516 million USD, which accounted for a 37% share of global exports. Taipei, the Netherlands, Germany, and Portugal were the other key global suppliers of bicycles in 2015, with a 37% combined share of global exports. <\/p>\n

Germany (+12.4% per year) and the Netherlands (+10.9% per year) were the fastest growing exporters from 2007 to 2015. The Netherlands strengthened its position in the global export structure, growing its share from 6% in 2007 to 9% in 2015. <\/p>\n

On the other hand, USA (20%, based on value terms), Japan (9%), Germany (8%), the UK (7%), and the Netherlands (6%) were the leading destinations of imports of bicycles in 2015. Imports to the Netherlands grew at a quick pace of +10.1% per year from 2007 to 2015. By contrast, the UK contracted its imports of bicycles over the same period. The Netherlands increased its share of global imports by +2 percentage points, while the share of the UK illustrated negative dynamics (-3 percentage points).<\/p>\n
