The play is adapted from the 1782 novel with the same title that was written by Pierre Choderlos de Laclos. The novel created a scandal in France when it was published. The stage adaptation of Les Liaisons Dangereuses<\/em> was written by Academy Award winner Christopher Hampton. Hampton’s stage adaptation was produced on Broadway in 1987 and 2008 and won Olivier and Evening Standard Awards for Best Play. Hampton earned an Academy Award for the film adaptation of the story entitled Dangerous Liaisons<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Les Liaisons Dangereuses<\/em> was revived at the Donmar Warehouse in London in the winter of 2015-2016. That was the first major production in London since the play’s debut in 1986. The London production of Les Liaisons Dangereuses<\/em> was directed by Olivier Award nominee and Donmar Artistic Director Josie Rourke and starred Janet McTeer as Madame de Merteuil. The production in London was nominated for an Olivier Award for Best Revival.<\/p>\n
