SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – September 21, 2026 –<\/strong> Ask Andrea Jefferson and Shani McKee what they’re most proud of after 10 years running Collab Medspa, and neither one starts with a treatment menu or a piece of equipment. They start with the people.<\/p>\n

This October marks 10 years since Jefferson and McKee first opened their doors in Scottsdale, on October 22, 2016. Back then, the business was part of a day-spa franchise, offering traditional spa services alongside a handful of more advanced treatments like laser hair removal, microneedling and chemical peels. It would take years – and a leap of faith – before it became something they could truly call their own.<\/p>\n

From Franchise to “Collab”<\/strong><\/p>\n

For a long time, Jefferson and McKee ran a business that wasn’t fully theirs. They loved the work and the clients, but they had a different vision for what the spa could be: a place where results-driven aesthetic treatments and the comfort of a neighborhood spa didn’t have to be separate things.<\/p>\n

In 2022, they took that leap. They stepped away from the franchise system and built Collab Medspa; <\/strong> a name that, for them, carries more than one meaning.<\/p>\n

There’s the collaboration inside their own walls, where the team leans on each other to learn, support one another and take care of clients well. There’s the collaboration with clients themselves, who play an active role in their own results through treatments, facials and the at-home routines that make the difference stick. And then there’s the deeper kind of collaboration — the relationships that have quietly built up over 10 years, one appointment at a time.<\/p>\n

Growing Up Without Losing the Feel of Home<\/strong><\/p>\n

The spa has changed a lot since 2016. What started as a fairly traditional day-spa has grown into a boutique medical aesthetics practice, with laser offerings that now go well beyond hair removal to include RF resurfacing, IPL and AviClear, alongside upgraded microneedling, CoolSculpting, and an evolving lineup of facials and skincare.<\/p>\n

But Jefferson and McKee have been careful not to chase every new device or trend that shows up in the industry.<\/p>\n

“The industry is constantly evolving, and there will always be something new,” Jefferson said. “We want to grow thoughtfully and carefully. For us, that means focusing on treatments we believe provide meaningful results and make sense for our clients – their skin, their well-being and their wallets.”<\/p>\n

That same instinct shapes the experience in the treatment room. Even clients coming in for more advanced, corrective work are still encouraged to get cozy under the blankets and take a breath.<\/p>\n

“We want people to feel comfortable from the moment they walk through our doors,” McKee said. “Whether someone is coming in for a facial, microneedling or a more advanced treatment, this should still be time they have set aside for themselves. It’s an approach that carries into how they think about beauty itself. Rather than pushing a single standard, Jefferson and McKee try to understand what each client considers beautiful, aiming for results that look natural and leave people feeling like themselves — just more confident.<\/p>\n

The Clients Who Never Left<\/strong><\/p>\n

If you want the real measure of Collab’s first decade, it isn’t in the services added or the technology upgraded. It’s in the fact that so many people simply never left.<\/p>\n

More than 100 clients<\/strong> have been coming to Collab for six years or longer — some since the very beginning in 2016 — and many have brought their family members and friends along with them over the years.<\/p>\n

One client first came in to get her skin ready for her wedding. She stayed on afterward and, for the first time, started hearing compliments on her skin from other people. She’s told the team that Collab feels less like a business and more like a warm, family-owned spot she genuinely looks forward to visiting.<\/p>\n

Massage therapist Donald<\/strong> has been part of the Collab team for roughly nine and a half of its 10 years, and the pair continue to look for team members who care about education, organization, collaboration and, above all, the client in front of them.<\/p>\n

“We spend a lot of our lives at work, and we want this to be a happy place to be,” Jefferson said. “Protecting that team dynamic isn’t always easy, but it’s worth it. Our team feels that energy, and our clients feel it too.”<\/p>\n

An Unlikely but Perfect Partnership<\/strong><\/p>\n

Jefferson and McKee didn’t come from the same professional world, and they’ll tell you that’s part of what has made their partnership work. Jefferson had a background in real estate and had recently sold several investment properties before opening the spa. McKee spent years in the corporate world as a district manager for a large company. Jefferson’s comfort with being self-employed and McKee’s experience inside structured corporate systems turned out to complement each other in ways neither fully expected.<\/p>\n

That partnership was put to the test during the COVID-19 pandemic, when constantly shifting requirements, anxious employees, worried clients and the sheer difficulty of running an in-person business collided all at once.<\/p>\n

There were moments of real doubt.<\/p>\n

Ten years in, Jefferson and McKee have no interest in turning Collab into a chain or opening additional locations.
