After high-temperature treatment, ash, sulfur, and gas content are significantly reduced. Calcined Petroleum Coke (CPC) Recarburizer<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

The most widely used<\/strong> recarburizer type. Petroleum coke is a byproduct of oil refining. Raw petroleum coke contains high impurities and cannot be used directly—it must be calcined at 1,200–1,350°C to become essentially pure carbon.<\/p>\n

The largest consumers of calcined petroleum coke are the aluminum industry (approximately 70% used for prebaked anodes), with about 6% used for iron casting recarburizers. CPC features high fixed carbon content (up to 98%+), low sulfur, and low ash.<\/p>\n

Natural Graphite, Coke, and Anthracite<\/strong><\/p>\n

Medium-carbon flake graphite can also be used as recarburizer, though in limited quantities. Coke and anthracite are rarely used in induction furnace iron melting due to their higher ash and volatile content, though they may be added during charging in electric arc furnace steelmaking.<\/p>\n

Particle Size Matters: Particles that are too fine are prone to burn-off; particles that are too coarse tend to float on the molten steel surface and are difficult to absorb.
