WHAT ZERO-KNOWLEDGE MEANS HERE<\/p>\n

OmniCanvas encrypts note content in the browser before it is sent anywhere. The encryption key is derived from a password the user sets on that individual note, using PBKDF2-SHA256 at 600,000 iterations. The key is never transmitted to OmniCanvas.<\/p>\n

Because the server receives only ciphertext, OmniCanvas cannot read the contents of an encrypted note. This also means OmniCanvas cannot recover an encrypted note if the user forgets its password. That trade-off is inherent to zero-knowledge encryption rather than a limitation of the implementation.<\/p>\n

Encryption is applied per note rather than to the entire account. A user can encrypt a client file, a medical note, or a set of interview transcripts while leaving ordinary notes unencrypted and fully searchable.<\/p>\n

Note titles, tags, folder assignments, and last-modified timestamps are not encrypted.<\/p>\n

This is a design decision with a visible trade-off. Leaving that metadata in the clear allows a user to browse, search, and organize encrypted notes without entering a password for each one. It also means those fields are visible to OmniCanvas and would be visible to anyone who gained access to the stored data.<\/p>\n

Users who need titles and tags concealed as well should reflect that in how they name and tag encrypted notes. OmniCanvas documents this boundary in its published encryption documentation rather than describing the product as encrypted without qualification.<\/p>\n
