{"id":821627,"date":"2026-06-25T02:29:02","date_gmt":"2026-06-25T02:29:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.abnewswire.com\/pressreleases\/?p=821627"},"modified":"2026-06-25T02:29:02","modified_gmt":"2026-06-25T02:29:02","slug":"us-and-chinese-photographers-showcase-zhejiang-in-cultural-exchange-exhibition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.abnewswire.com\/pressreleases\/us-and-chinese-photographers-showcase-zhejiang-in-cultural-exchange-exhibition_821627.html","title":{"rendered":"US and Chinese Photographers Showcase Zhejiang in Cultural Exchange Exhibition"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"float:right;  width:250px; padding:8px 10px 10px 10px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.abnewswire.com\/upload\/2026\/06\/1782326750.jpg\" style=\"border:none !important;\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-29\" title=\"US and Chinese Photographers Showcase Zhejiang in Cultural Exchange Exhibition\" src=\"https:\/\/www.abnewswire.com\/upload\/2026\/06\/1782326750.jpg\" alt=\"US and Chinese Photographers Showcase Zhejiang in Cultural Exchange Exhibition\" width=\"225\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>HANGZHOU, China &#8211;<\/strong> More than 160 photographs created by American and Chinese artists went on display in eastern China&#8217;s Zhejiang province last week as organizers promoted people-to-people exchanges at a time when relations between China and the United States remain strained.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The exhibition, titled <em>Encountering the Mountains and Seas<\/em><em>: China-U.S. Photographers Exhibition<\/em>, opened June 12 in Hangzhou and features 70 printed works and 98 digital images created during an eight-day photography tour across Zhejiang Province.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Fourteen American photographers joined 18 Chinese photographers in traveling through Wenzhou, Lishui and Hangzhou from June 5 to June 12, documenting the province&#8217;s landscapes, historical sites, local communities and technological development.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The exhibition, held at the Yuejian Xihu cultural space in Hangzhou, presents how American and Chinese photographers interpreted contemporary Zhejiang through their own perspectives.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">For Yaakov Gottlieb, a travel photographer visiting China for the first time, the journey provided a different view of everyday life.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;People make baskets and fans, make crafts in metal workshops and cook food in the streets &mdash; these are cultural moments you don&#8217;t see in the United States,&#8221; Gottlieb said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The tour took photographers from historical landmarks such as the Archaeological Ruins of Liangzhu City, a UNESCO World Heritage site with more than 5,000 years of history, to technology centers featuring robotics and artificial intelligence.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;We visited the Archaeological Ruins of Liangzhu City, and we also interacted with the latest models of robots and AI,&#8221; said Eric Seidner, an American who has lived in China for two decades. &#8220;All the way from the ancient past, beyond the present day and into the future of China.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Some participants described personal experiences as among the most memorable parts of the trip.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Photographer Joshua Allen Cuppek said sharing tea with Buddhist monks was an experience he had long hoped to have.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;That&#8217;s something I&#8217;ve always loved the idea of doing, but I never imagined I would actually experience it,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Jerald Braddock Jr., who visited Hangzhou&#8217;s West Lake for the first time during the tour, said interactions with local residents left a lasting impression.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;I love the nature,&#8221; Braddock said. &#8220;I was taking pictures and meeting people who wanted to talk about the flowers, the lake and the environment. It felt like being part of a big family.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Relations between China and the United States have faced tensions in recent years over trade, technology and security issues, while educational and cultural exchanges have yet to fully recover to pre-pandemic levels. Organizers said programs such as the Zhejiang photography exchange can help promote mutual understanding through direct contact between ordinary citizens.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;The United States and China still have a lot of work to do to bridge their gaps in terms of how they perceive each other,&#8221; said Huang Ping, vice president of the China-U.S. People&#8217;s Friendship Association, during the opening ceremony. &#8220;Such exchanges play a fundamental role in fostering mutual understanding.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Chen Rufu, deputy director-general of the Zhejiang Department of Culture, Radio, Television and Tourism, said photography serves as a form of communication that transcends language and national boundaries.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;Each photograph is the result of careful observation and genuine emotional engagement with the world,&#8221; Chen said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Organizers said American participants will receive the honorary title of &#8220;Poetry and Painting Zhejiang Friendship Ambassadors&#8221; and expressed hope that more international visitors will travel to the province in the future.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The exhibition runs through June 25.
