According to his own account, Charlie Tôn Quý left Vietnam at the age of 14 and resettled in the state of Louisiana, USA. “Life here was extremely tough. Right after I arrived, I had to start shelling shrimp to earn a living. Later, I worked at Swatman Market and in Vietnamese coffee shops. My mother had always trained me to study hard, so despite the hardship, I managed to finish high school and eventually attend university,” Charlie Tôn Quý recalled.<\/p>\n

In 1995, he graduated with honors in chemical engineering. However, the U.S. economy was facing challenges at the time, and as a new graduate, Charlie found it nearly impossible to secure employment in his field.<\/p>\n

In November of the same year, Charlie opened his first nail supply store, motivated by the simple fact that his wife, Mrs. Lê Ph\u01b0\u1ee3ng, owned a nail salon, and he himself possessed some knowledge of chemistry. Lacking capital, he managed to borrow $70,000—an amount that would later become the humble foundation of his remarkable business empire.<\/p>\n

During a visit to a Walmart store, he was surprised to see a variety of services offered, yet not a single nail salon. Seizing the opportunity, Charlie proposed a collaboration with Walmart, only to be met with an outright rejection.<\/p>\n

Nevertheless, he remained undeterred. For two years, he persistently lobbied Walmart for a partnership. His breakthrough finally came in 1997, when a store space unexpectedly became available. Charlie seized the opportunity and became the first Vietnamese entrepreneur to successfully negotiate a business deal with the retail giant.<\/p>\n

Following the success of his first nail salon, Walmart granted him the opportunity to open additional locations. Today, his brand—Regal Nails—boasts over 800 salons across the United States. His long-term vision is to continue expanding Regal Nails globally.<\/p>\n
