Under a microscope, viewers can pick out a double\u2011headed eagle, the imperial crown resting on a velvet cushion, the Kremlin’s Spasskaya clocktower, the onion domes of Saint\u202fBasil’s, a map of the Russian Federation, the Order of St.\u202fGeorge cross—and even miniature references to the country’s space program. A spear clutched by a hair\u2011thin figure of St.\u202fGeorge rises free of the surface, demonstrating what the artist calls “millimeter\u2011scale three\u2011dimensional chasing,” a technique he pioneered.<\/p>\n
In a written statement provided to The Associated Press, Jangi said he conceived the piece as “a bridge from the Aryan plateau to the heirs of the Tsar—a conversational gift between civilizations.” He added that the motif\u2011packed composition took more than 1,400 hours under a binocular microscope to execute.<\/p>\n
Art\u202fMoscow’s organizers expect more than 100 galleries and 10,000 visitors at this year’s edition, which runs through April\u202f27 and features special sections on jewelry art and design—an apt stage for Jangi’s debut.<\/p>\n
The ring will be shown in a custom, illuminated case that includes a high\u2011resolution digital microscope feed so fair\u2011goers can zoom into its sub\u2011millimeter details. No sale price has been disclosed; the artist’s studio says it is “open to institutional acquisitions” but intends to keep the work together with preliminary sketches and molds as part of a future traveling exhibition.<\/p>\n
While the ring is Jangi’s first public work inspired by Russia, it continues a practice that has produced museum\u2011quality micro\u2011engravings on gemstones and precious metals for more than two decades. A 2016 Iranian television documentary, “Ma’refat\u2011e\u202fHonar” (“The Knowledge of Art”), credited him with reviving and modernizing three\u2011dimensional chasing for a new generation.<\/p>\n
